Steven Brault Bio, Life and Career:

Steven Joseph Brault is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. Brault was born on April 29, 1992, in the United States. In 2016, he made his Major League Baseball debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates. As he was growing up, Brault was an avid supporter of the San Diego Padres. He received his high school diploma from Grossmont, which is located in El Cajon, California.

When he was a senior at Grossmont High School, he not only batted.378 but also had an 8–1 record with a 2.56 earned run average while playing opposite Joe Musgrove, who would later join him on the Pittsburgh Pirates.  After graduating from high school, he did not end up being drafted. Brault received his degree in vocal performance from Regis University, where he also competed on the baseball team. He started 11 games as a junior and had an 8–3 record with a 2.63 earned run average.

In 78.2 innings, he walked only 18 batters while striking out 103. Brault was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the 11th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draught. He signed a contract with the Orioles, and he made his professional debut with the Aberdeen IronBirds. He spent the rest of 2013 with the IronBirds, where he went 1–2 with a 2.09 earned run average in 12 starts. In 2014, he split his time between the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Frederick Keys, where he pitched a combined 25 games and compiled an 11–8 record with a 2.77 earned run average (24 starts).

On February 20, 2015, Brault was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Pittsburgh Pirates as the player to be named later as part of a trade that had originally taken place on January 27, 2015, when Travis Snider was traded to Baltimore in exchange for Stephen Tarpley. In the beginning of his Pirates career, he played for the Bradenton Marauders, but he was eventually sent up to the Altoona Curve. Brault pitched for both teams and made a total of 28 starts, compiling a 13–4 record, a 2.43 earned run average, and a 1.12 walk-to-hit ratio. He started the 2016 season playing with the Indianapolis Indians.

Brault was called up to the major leagues by the Pirates and made his first appearance in a major league game on July 5, 2016, at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched four innings, during which he walked two batters and struck out five, leading Pittsburgh to a 5–2 victory over St. Louis. Of the two runs he allowed, just one was earned. The following day, he was sent back to Indianapolis on an option. Throughout the course of the season, Brault was called up from optioned many times before finally being brought back up on September 2 of this year. In a total of 16 games, he made 15 starts and had a record of 2–7 with an earned run average of 3.91.

For Pittsburgh, he appeared in eight games but only made seven starts and had a record of 0–3 with an earned run average of 4.86. 2017 started out with Brault competing in Indianapolis. Before being brought back up for the remainder of the season on August 22, he was recalled twice before those games. When he pitched for the Indians, he started 21 games and had a record of 10–5 with an earned run average of 1.94.  When he pitched for the Pirates, he started 11 games and had a record of 1–0 with an earned run average of 4.67.  However, after he made five starts and had an earned run average of 5.54, he was relegated to the bullpen to finish the season. In the final 45 games of the season, his earned run average was 4.61. (5 starts). In 91 and 2/3 innings, he had 82 strikeouts.

In 2019, Brault pitched in a total of 25 games, 19 of which he started, and he finished with a record of 4–6 with an earned run average of 5.16. When it came to offense, he was tied for first place with Zack Greinke for the most hits by a pitcher in the major leagues with 14. In 2020, Brault pitched for the Pirates and finished the season with a 3.38 earned run average and 38 strikeouts over 42.2 innings pitched. Brault suffered a left lat strain on April 1, 2021, which led to him being placed on the 60-day injury list. On August 4, 2021, he made his debut with the Pirates as the starting pitcher in a game against Milwaukee. On November 29, 2021, the Pirates announced that they would be assigning Brault to a role.
