Susan Saint James Bio, Life, and Career:

Susan Saint James is an American actress and activist who was born Susan Jane Miller in 1946. She is most known for her work in television throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, particularly in the detective series McMillan & Wife (1971–1976) and the sitcom Kate & Allie (1984–1989). Susan Jane Miller, better known as Saint James, was born in Los Angeles, California, to a family from Connecticut. Her mother, Constance (Geiger) Miller, was a teacher, and her father, Charles Daniel Miller, worked for Mitchell Camera and subsequently became the president of the Testor Corporation.

Saint James was the daughter of Constance and Charles Daniel Miller. Saint James was born in Rockford, Illinois, and began her modeling career there when she was just a teenager. During the elementary and middle school years of her education, she spent time in Lake Forest, Illinois, at the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart. After that, she received her education at Connecticut College.

Her debut appearance on screen was in the TV movie Fame Is the Name of the Game (1966), which also starred Tony Franciosa. The film served as the springboard for Saint James’s career when it was adapted into a series just two years later. Among her other early appearances on television were two episodes from the first season of Ironside (“Girl in the Night” in December 1967 and then “Something for Nothing” two months later, playing a different role in the episode). In the sequel to The Trouble with Angels, which was released in 1968 and was titled Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows, she too had a supporting role.

Saint James’s first appearance was in the film Fame Is the Name of the Game, which led to her having a recurring role in the television series The Name of the Game from 1968 to 1971. She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1969 for her performance as the research assistant Peggy Maxwell, which helped make her a well-known young actress at the time. Within the framework of the series, which was centered on a massive media conglomerate, Tony Franciosa, Gene Barry, and Robert Stack took turns playing the rotating lead characters.

Typically, only one of their characters was featured in each episode. By acting as a research assistant for all three at various points in the series, Saint James ensured that there was some level of continuity between episodes. In most of the episodes, she played a supporting character; but, in the episode “The King of Denmark” from the second season, her character, Peggy Maxwell, shared the spotlight with Franciosa’s “Jeff Dillon.” She appeared in nearly half of the episodes. In addition, Saint James had a significant role in the first season’s story titled “Pineapple Rose,” which was a segment written by Gene Barry.

In this story, her character was heavily featured when she was kidnapped due to a case of mistaken identification.[source: missing citation]Saint James played a minor role in the first episode of the crime drama series It Takes a Thief, which was created by Robert Wagner and aired in 1967.

This resulted in the actor being given a recurring part playing a new character named Charlene “Chuck” Brown. Brown is a co-thief with Alexander Mundy and a “casual” love interest for him. Between the years 1968 and 1970, she appeared in a total of four episodes of the show. After that, she had a role in the first episode of the Western television series Alias Smith and Jones, which aired in 1971.

Then she got her first leading role as Sally McMillan, Rock Hudson’s younger and more supportive wife, in the popular and light-hearted crime series McMillan & Wife (1971–1976), for which she was nominated for four Emmy Awards. A disagreement over a contract led to Saint James’ departure from the show; however, she went on to develop her career as an actor in feature films, including a role opposite Peter Fonda in the film Outlaw Blues (1977).

She first rose to prominence in the vampire comedy Love at First Bite (1979) and then went on to play a part in the comedy How to Beat the High Cost of Living (1980), which also starred Jessica Lange and Jane Curtin. Both of these films were very successful for her. During the time she was in between film roles, she appeared in an episode of M*A*S*H on March 3, 1980. The episode was called “War Co-Respondent” and it was episode number 192.

She tried her hand at various film projects, but none of them were successful, so she went back to television and starred in the comedy sitcom Kate & Allie alongside Jane Curtin from 1984 to 1989. In recognition of her work in this role, she was nominated for three further Emmys. Alongside Vince McMahon, Saint James served as a celebrity guest commentator for the WrestleMania 2 event that was held in 1986 by the World Wrestling Federation.
