Taz Bio, Life, and Career:

Peter Senerchia better known by the ring name Taz (also spelled Tazz), is an American radio personality, color commentator, and retired professional wrestler signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as a commentator and manager. Senerchia was born on October 11, 1967, and is better known by the ring name Taz (also spelled Tazz). He is well-known for his work in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he held the titles of two-time World Heavyweight Champion, two-time World Television Champion, three-time World Tag Team Champion, two-time (and the inaugural) FTW Heavyweight Champion, two-time World Television Champion, three-time World Tag Team Champion, two-time World Heavyweight Champion, and fourth ECW Triple Crown Champion.

His career as an in-ring performer for the World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (WWF/E) came to an early end in 2002, and as a result, he transitioned into a role as a color commentator, which he continued to do until his contract with WWE expired in April 2009. In April 2009, his contract with WWE came to an end. Two months later, Senerchia made his debut in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling at their Victory Road pay-per-view event using the ring name Taz, which he had used previously. Eventually, Senerchia returned to his job as a color commentator for TNA’s broadcasts, taking over for Don West. Senerchia began his wrestling career with the World Wrestling Council (WWC), and on June 3, 1987, he made his debut in the professional wrestling industry.

After receiving training from Johnny Rodz, took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He first competed under the ring name Kid Krush before switching to the name The Tazmaniac, of which he would use variants for the rest of his career in professional wrestling.  In the early 1990s, he wrestled under the ring name The Tazmaniac for the organization known as International World Class Championship Wrestling (IWCCW). In 1991, he was the organization’s light heavyweight champion and held the title for six months.  He would follow Tony Rumble in quitting IWCCW in order to join the Century Wrestling Alliance, which had only recently been created (CWA). Also, he would go on the road for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).

On August 19, 1991, Senerchia competed in his first bout for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) under the ring name The Tazmaniac. He was beaten by Ray Odyssey in this encounter. After that, on February 8, 1993, he competed in and won a dark match against Joey Maggs during a taping of Saturday Night in Atlanta, Georgia. This was the only time he ever appeared in World Championship Wrestling (WCW).  On May 5, 1993, he would then make his second debut in the World Wrestling Federation. At the taping of Wrestling Challenge in Portland, Maine, Tazmaniac would prevail over Scott Taylor in a match that was held in the dark.

After that, he would go on to make two more appearances in house shows in the state of New Jersey on June 29 and June 30, but he would be defeated by Jim Powers both times.  Senerchia, who competed in pro wrestling under the ring name “The Tazmaniac,” made his debut at the October 1993 edition of NWA Bloodfest for the Philadelphia-based promotion Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW). The Tazmaniacs was the name of the tag team that he and Joe Chetti, who is Chris Chetti’s brother, created. After the dissolution of that combination, he was paired up with Kevin Sullivan in a new tag team, and the two of them went on to win the Tag Team Title not once but twice.

The Tazmaniac became a double champion in March 1994 when, during his second reign as Tag Team Champion with Sullivan, he also won the Television Title for one night. This accomplishment made him a double champion.  For most of the remaining time in the year, he competed in the tag team ranks alongside a variety of different partners. He held the title once more, this time with Sabu until ECW owner Paul Heyman legitimately dismissed Sabu for not turning up to an event in favor of visiting Japan for New Japan Pro-Wrestling. During that time, he shared the title with Sabu.  Shane Douglas defeated The Tazmaniac in the quarterfinals of a one-night tournament for the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship that took place in August of 1994. The tournament lasted only one night and featured eight competitors.

The Tasmanian Devil missed a significant portion of the 1995 season due to a legitimate injury. On July 20, during a tag team match, 2 Cold Scorpio and Dean Malenko hit him with a spike piledriver. Despite the fact that he was aware that the move was about to be executed, he did not have enough time to adequately protect himself at the time. “I fell right on my forehead and basically jerked my whole neck back and that was it,” he said in the documentary The Rise and Fall of ECW which is included on the DVD. “That was it.” According to Tommy Dreamer, the neck injury was so severe that the hospital personnel couldn’t believe he’d walked into the hospital where he sought care after the match. Tommy Dreamer sought medical attention after the match. In spite of the fact that he was unable to compete, Paul Heyman continued to pay him in accordance with the verbal commitment the two had made, which strengthened the loyalty between them.
