Tony Pittman Bio, Life, and Career:

Tony Pittman is a former college football player from the United States. He was born on August 5, 1971. After finishing high school at Phillips Academy in 1990, he enrolled at Penn State, where he was a cornerback and made the All-Big Ten Second Team. Pittman went to McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania before transferring to Phillips Academy. He would have graduated with the class of 1989.

Joe Paterno recruited Pittman in 1990 from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts; other members of that class included Kerry Collins and Kyle Brady. Pittman was honored with the Jim O’Hora Award in 1993. The award is given to a defensive player on the Penn State Nittany Lions football team for “exemplary conduct, loyalty, attention, attitude, and improvement” during spring practice. The award is named after Jim O’Hora, a longtime assistant coach for the Penn State Nittany Lions who retired in 1977 after 31 years with the team.

Pittman started all 12 games at cornerback for the Nittany Lions in 1994, when they went undefeated and won the Rose Bowl.  Charlie Pittman, Pittman’s father, was a standout running back for Penn State’s 1968 and 1969 undefeated teams.

The father and son duo both wore jersey number 24 while playing for the Nittany Lions. Both were denied the national championships that their teams deserved despite having played on three of Joe Paterno’s five unbeaten teams.

Both Tony and Charlie Pittman won every game they started for Penn State. Between them, they went 45-0-1 in college.
