His parents, Patti Cummings, a native of Texas and the public relations director of Neiman Marcus at Mazza Gallerie, and Eric Lynn Cummings, a lawyer and venture capitalist from West Virginia, welcomed him into the world on that day. She has a half-brother by the name of Kevin and a sister by the name of Ashley who is both older than her. Cummings’ religious upbringing was that of a Roman Catholic. When she was five years old, her parents separated and divorced.
She has mentioned that she was reared in a home that was filled with dysfunctional people and alcoholics. When she was twelve years old, she moved in with her aunt in Virginia for a while, but she spent her summers in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia because that is where her father worked as a manager at the Hill Top House Hotel. Cummings received his high school diploma from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, in the year 2000. During her senior year of high school, she worked as an intern at WRC-TV, a television station in Washington that is owned by NBC.
She attended the acting programme at the Studio Theater in Washington, District of Columbia. Cummings continued his education by enrolling in the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania immediately following his graduation from high school. During this time, she worked as a model for several stores inside the local shopping malls and department stores. She received a degree in Communications Magna Cum Laude in 2004, and at one point in her life, she intended to pursue a career as a journalist. After graduating from college, Cummings relocated to Los Angeles and began working on the MTV show Punk’d in the year 2004.
During the same year, she had a starring role in the low-budget thriller EMR, which was shown at Cannes. Cummings started his career as a stand-up comedian in the year 2004. She was chosen by Variety as one of the “10 Comics to Watch in 2007” that year. In 2008, she participated in the Last Comic Standing audition that was held in San Francisco; however, she was not selected for the showcase. She also had a role in the romantic comedy Made of Honor, which was released in 2008, and aired on The Tony Rock Project. Cummings began making appearances on the E! series Chelsea Lately as a regular roundtable guest in 2007, and she kept making appearances on the show until it was cancelled in 2014.
In 2008, Entertainment Weekly recognised her as one of the 12 most promising newcomers in the comedy world. After that, she went on to participate as a comedian in the “Roasts” of Joan Rivers (2009), David Hasselhoff (2010), and Donald Trump (2011), all shown on Comedy Central (2011). In August of 2010, Comedy Central broadcast the first episode of her first one-hour special, which was titled Whitney Cummings: Money Shot. During the year 2010, Cummings participated in the Rescue Me Comedy Tour alongside Denis Leary in order to promote the sixth season of the programme. She had a relationship with Cameron Fegreus. Additionally, she shared an appearance on Douchebags and Donuts with Leary.
In 2011, two multi-camera, live-audience sitcoms that Cummings had created were picked up by broadcast networks. These shows were titled Whitney and 2 Broke Girls. Cummings co-created and executive produced 2 Broke Girls with Michael Patrick King (which she starred in, executive produced, and created). The critically panned film Whitney, in which Cummings played a character that was a semi-fictionalized version of herself, did not do well with audiences.
Additionally, Cummings admits that the experience was a steep learning curve for her. In May 2013, the series was terminated after having aired for two seasons. Cummings had a talk programme titled Love You, Mean It with Whitney Cummings on E! in 2012 which was cancelled after airing 11 episodes despite the fact that she was still working on the second season of Whitney at the time. Cummings revealed in a subsequent interview that during this time period, she was overworking herself and also struggling with an eating issue in which she would engage in binge eating followed by obsessive exercise. She also stated that she was working herself to the point of exhaustion.
