Zahra Noorbakhsh Bio, Life, and Career:

Zahra Noorbakhsh is an Iranian-American comedian, writer, actor, and co-host of the GoodMuslimBadMuslim podcast. She was born on June 11, 1980, in the United States of America.  The one-woman show that she performed, titled All Atheists Are Muslim, was hailed as a standout performance at the New York International Fringe Festival. She has a monthly column in the New York Times featured anthology Love Inshallah: The Secret Love Lives of American Muslim Women titled “My Infidel Husband,” and she is a contributor to the book.  At the very first Muslim Funny Fest, which took place in New York City, Noorbakhsh was one of the featured comedians. 2006 marked the year that Noorbakhsh received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

In spite of the fact that she began her career as a stand-up comedian, her passion for impersonations, characters, and storytelling led her to explore the world of theatre and, eventually, solo performance. Her career as a solo performer began in 2007 at the Solo Performance Workshop, which was directed by W. Kamau Bell. It was there that Noorbakhsh penned several shows, including All Atheists Are Muslim and Hijab and Hammer pants.In the web series The Van Life, she had a recurring role as a friend who was half Persian. In addition to that, she has collaborated with her co-host Tanzila Ahmed to perform a live recording of the #GoodMuslimBadMuslim podcast on the grounds of the White House. Noorbakhsh spent most of her childhood in Danville, California, along with her parents and three older siblings.

A significant portion of her stand-up comedy is centered on her experiences coming of age as an Iranian-American Muslim of the second generation.  Together with her husband, Duncan, she makes San Francisco, California, her home and place of employment.
