Anthony Horowitz Bio, Life, and Career:

Anthony John Horowitz, CBE is a British novelist and screenwriter who focuses on writing suspenseful and mysterious stories. He was born in England on April 5, 1955. His works for children and young adult readers include the Alex Rider series, which follows the adventures of a British boy of the same age who spies for MI6; the Power of Five series, which is known as The Gatekeepers in the United States; and the Diamond Brothers series.

His works for adults include the play Mindgame (2001), two Sherlock Holmes novels titled The House of Silk (2011) and Moriarty (2014), two novels featuring his own private detective Atticus Pund titled Magpie Murders (2016) and Moonflower Murders (2020), and four novels featuring a fictionalized version of himself as a companion and chronicler to private investigator Daniel Hawthorne titled The Word Is Murder (2017), The Sentence Is Death (2018), A-Line to Kill (2021),

Horowitz was selected by the estate of James Bond creator Ian Fleming to write Bond books using unpublished material by Fleming. These novels will begin with Trigger Mortis in 2015, followed by Forever and a Day in 2018, and a third and final novel titled With a Mind to Kill will be published in May 2022. Horowitz was raised in an upper middle-class lifestyle throughout his younger years after being born into a Jewish family in Stanmore, which is located in Middlesex.

Horowitz enjoyed reading books from his father’s library when he was a child, despite the fact that he was overweight and unhappy. Horowitz’s nanny would take him out on the River Torridge while he was a young boy when the family would vacation in Instow. In addition to that, he had a plush monkey by the name of Benjamin, but unfortunately, his dog ate it.

Horowitz began writing when he was around 8 or 9 years old, and he realized almost immediately that he would be a successful writer. This was due to the fact that he was a poor student, was not in good physical shape, and sought solace in reading and making up stories as a form of self-expression. Horowitz remarked in an interview that took place in 2006 that “I was quite certain, from my earliest memory, that I would be a professional writer and nothing but.”

He started attending Rugby School, a public school located in Rugby, Warwickshire, when he was 13 years old. Horowitz’s mother was the one who first introduced him to Dracula and Frankenstein. In addition, she presented him with a human skull on the occasion of his 13th birthday. In an interview, Horowitz explained that the fact that he will soon resemble the skull serves as a reminder to him to write each story until its conclusion.

In 1977, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of York, where he attended Vanbrugh College, with a grade that was equivalent to a lower second-class standing. His major was English literature and art history.

Horowitz’s father had connections to a number of the MPs who were part of the “circle” of Prime Minister Harold Wilson, one of which is Eric Miller. In order to protect his assets from being taken by the bank, he put them into Swiss numbered bank accounts. Horowitz was only 22 years old when his father passed away from cancer, and despite the family’s best efforts, they were never able to find the money that had gone missing.

Horowitz and his wife Jill Green, whom he wed in Hong Kong on April 15, 1988, currently make their home in the Central district of London. The television series Foyle’s War, which Horowitz scripted for ITV, was produced by Green. They are the parents of two sons. According to him, much of his success in writing may be attributed to his family, since he claims that they assist him with ideas and research.

He is a patron of the charitable organizations Home-Start in Suffolk, which provides assistance to families, and Kidscape, which helps protect children. The Sinister Secret of Frederick K. Bower, which was the first book written by Anthony Horowitz, was a funny adventure for youngsters that was first released in 1979 and later reissued in 1985 with the title Enter Frederick K. Bower. He traveled to Paris to write his third book after the publication of his second novel, which was titled Misha, the Magician, and the Mysterious Amulet, and was released in 1981.

The first book in the Pentagram series was published all the way back in 1983. The plot of the story, which was titled “The Devil’s Door-Bell,” followed a young boy named Martin Hopkins, who was thirteen years old at the time, as he attempted to adjust to a new life with a foster mother on a farm in Yorkshire.

However, his life swiftly turned into a nightmare when he ended up having to fight an ancient evil that threatened the entire planet. The Night of the Scorpion (1984), The Silver Citadel (1986), and Day of the Dragon (1986) are the only three of the remaining four novels in the series that have ever been published.

In 1985, he published a book called Myths and Legends, which was a compilation of retellings of stories from different parts of the world.

Groosham Grange was first made available to readers in the year 1988. “Witch” David Eliot, who is just thirteen years old but is gifted as the seventh son of a seventh son, serves as the story’s primary protagonist. The Lancashire Children’s Book of the Year Award for 1989 was ultimately bestowed upon this publication. Horowitz did not opt to take action as a result of the similarities that were found between this novel and J. K. Rowling’s more recent Harry Potter series, even though there were similarities found between the two.
