Artie Lange Bio, Life, and Career:
Arthur Steven Lange Jr. is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and radio personality who was born on October 11, 1967. He is best known for his stints on the sketch comedy series Mad TV (1995–1997) and The Howard Stern Show (2001–2009). After the passing of his quadriplegic father, Lange began his career by working as a longshoreman and then as a taxi driver to assist in providing for his family in New Jersey, where he was raised.
His first performance as a stand-up comic was in 1987, and he committed himself fully to the profession five years later, honing his act while performing in clubs all over the New York City area. After being cast in Mad TV in 1995, Jessica Lange made the move to Los Angeles. During the second season, he was arrested for possessing cocaine, which ultimately led to his departure from the show and his subsequent rehabilitation. Lange was given additional acting roles, including a recurring role on Norm Macdonald’s sitcom The Norm Show, as a result of Norm Macdonald’s decision in 1997 to cast her as a co-star in his comedy film Dirty Work (1998). Lange moved back to New Jersey in 2001 and began working as a guest host on The Howard Stern Show.
During this time, he also worked on a number of other projects, including the release of two comedy albums, the co-writing, producing, and starring in his feature film Artie Lange’s Beer League (2006), and the publication of his first book, Too Fat to Fish (2008), which debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. After an unsuccessful attempt at suicide at the beginning of 2010, Artie Lange went through rehabilitation and went on to co-host The Nick & Artie Show with Nick Di Paolo from 2011 until 2013.
After that, he continued to co-host The Artie Lange Show until 2014. This was also the time that Lange published his second book, titled Crash and Burn (2013). From 2015 until 2017, Lange was the host of The Artie Quitter Podcast. After that, he had a recurring role in the HBO series Crashing, and from 2017 until 2018, he was a co-host on The Artie and Anthony Show alongside Anthony Cumia. Following a string of arrests and time spent in rehabilitation for drug addiction, he published his third book, Wanna Bet?, and took a break from his career that same year. After getting sober, Artie Lange resumed his stand-up comedy career and started his podcast, Artie Lange’s Halfway House, in 2019. However, he paused his career twice before picking up the podcast again in October 2021.
Lange was born in Livingston, New Jersey, on October 11, 1967, and he spent his childhood in Union Township, which is located in Union County. His mother, Judy (née Caprio), was a housewife, and his father, Arthur Lange Sr., was a general contractor who installed television antennas. His mother was of Italian descent, and his father was of German descent. His sister Stacey has a career in the fashion industry. Two weeks after Lange was born, his father was put on trial for keeping $200,000 in counterfeit money for a loan shark. The court decided not to send him to jail out of compassion for his young son, who had just been born.
After submitting a sample of his DNA for analysis in August of 2003, Lange discovered that he is approximately twenty-five percent American Indian as a result of the testing. During his time at Union High School, Lange excelled at baseball to the point where he was recognized as an all-county third baseman. Because of his poor academic performance, he needed to attend summer school in order to earn his diploma. In August of 1985, Lange was detained on suspicion of attempting to rob a bank. Lange has made his home in a penthouse in Hoboken, New Jersey, which he purchased for a total of $620,000 in the year 2001.
In 2008, he spent $2.5 million on the acquisition of a summer home in Toms River, New Jersey, that was 7,000 square feet, and had one of the rooms renovated by the crew from the television show Man Caves. In 2010, he decided to sell the house, and it finally went under contract in 2016. Despite the fact that he is pro-choice, a supporter of gay rights, and a supporter of unions as a result of his former career as a longshoreman, Lange does not consider himself to be a liberal. during the course of an episode of his podcast titled “Artie the Quitter.”
He has made the false claim that he is unable to vote because he has been convicted of a felony, which is not the case in the state of New Jersey. In 2007, the bakery Crumbs in New York City began selling a vanilla and chocolate cupcake named Artie Lange that he designed himself. Proceeds from the sale of these cupcakes went to the HIV/AIDS charity LIFEbeat. In March of 2008, LIFEbeat decided not to accept any more donations after Lange used a variety of anti-gay epithets toward a co-worker with whom he was arguing on-air.
