C. M. Mayo Bio, Life, and Career:
C.M. Mayo is a well-known literary journalist, novelist, memoirist, short story writer, poet, podcaster, and translator of contemporary Mexican poetry and fiction. He was born and raised in the United States. She has translated the works of Mexican authors and poets such as Araceli Ardón, Agustin Cadena, Antonio Deltoro, Alvaro Énrigue, Eduardo Hurtado, Mónica Lavn, Guadalupe Loaeza, Tedi López Mills, Rose Mary Salum, Ignacio Solares, Juan Villoro, and Verónica Volkow for a number of different literary magazines and anthologies.
Her birthplace is Texas, but she spent her childhood in Northern California and received her education in economics from the University of Chicago. She has lived in Mexico City for a significant amount of time. Mayo is also the author of several other books about Mexico, such as the historical novel THE LAST PRINCE OF THE MEXICAN EMPIRE (Unbridled Books), which is based on a true story and was named a Library Journal Best Book of 2009.

The translations of Mexican contemporary literature that Mayo has produced have been published in a variety of periodicals and anthologies, the most recent of which are Three Messages and a Warning: Contemporary Mexican Short Stories of the Fantastic (Small Beer Press) and Best Contemporary Mexican Fiction (Dalkey Archive).
MEXICO: A TRAVELER’S LITERARY COMPANION is her own anthology, which features the works of 24 Mexican writers (Whereabouts Press). She was educated at the University of Chicago after being born in El Paso, Texas, but spent most of her childhood in the northern state of California. Over the course of the past 25 years, she has called Mexico City her home. She is in the process of writing a book about the Big Bend region of Far West Texas, and she is also the host of the Marfa Mondays Podcasting Project, which is relevant to that topic.
