Faouzia Bio, Life, and Career:
Moroccan-Canadian singer-songwriter and musician Faouzia Ouihya (Arabic: Fawziya Uwiya; born July 5, 2000), better known by her mononymous stage name Faouzia, is best known for her song “Tears Of Gold.” She was born in Morocco, but she came to Canada with her family when she was a little child. During that time period, she became proficient in a number of instruments and began writing the initial drafts of her musical compositions.
Before she launched her first extended play (EP), titled Stripped, in August of 2020, she initially made her name in the music industry by releasing a number of singles and working closely with a large number of performers on vocals and lyrics. Faouzia Ouihya was born in Casablanca, Morocco, but she moved to Canada with her family when she was just one year old. They first settled in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba, in the province of Manitoba, but eventually made their home in the rural community of Carman, Manitoba.
She is one of three sisters, the other two being Samia, who is one of her managers, and Kenza, who is her photographer. She was brought up in a Muslim household and spent a lot of time in her home country. According to Faouzia, she has a “very connected” feeling to both the nation and the region of North Africa. Despite the fact that I was raised in Canada, I was brought up on Moroccan cuisine and was dressed in traditional Moroccan garb. She disclosed this experience during an interview and said, “Maybe not just fitting in is the biggest thing I’ve had to overcome.”
She was referring to the fact that she did not feel included as a child. This sense of being excluded led to her debut composition, which was one in which she welcomed the unique qualities that people possessed. When she was four years old, she observed her older sister Samia play the piano, and she wished that she, too, could learn how to play it. This was the beginning of her love for music. When Faouzia was five years old, she started writing songs and poems, and when she was six years old, she started playing the piano.
In subsequent years, she learned to play the guitar and the violin. She is also fluent in French, and she uses Arabic with her family the most out of the three languages she knows. She speaks English and French as well. in the age of fifteen, she took home the top prizes in the 2015 La Chicane Éléctrique competition, including Song of the Year, the Audience Award, and the Grand Prix.
She started uploading her original songs as well as other cover versions to YouTube, which eventually led to her signing a deal with Paradigm Talent Agency. As a result of the early success she had, she published her first single, titled “Knock on My Door,” on November 1 via a variety of online sites.
During the year 2016, she was awarded the runner-up prize in Canada’s Walk of Fame Emerging Artist Mentorship Program. In the year 2017, she was awarded the top prize at the music competition that was held in Nashville only for unsigned artists. In the same year, she worked with a fellow artist from Manitoba named Matt Epp on their tune titled “The Sound” and won the International Songwriting Competition, which is the largest songwriting competition in the world.
These two individuals are the first people from Canada in the competition’s 16-year history to take home the grand prize. They triumphed against 16,000 other entrants from 137 different nations. As part of the festivities commemorating Canada’s sesquicentennial, she gave a performance with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at The Forks in Winnipeg.
On the studio album number 7 that David Guetta released on August 24, 2018, the song “Battle” features Faouzia as a guest vocalist. In an interview that was conducted in French and published by Le Matin, David Guetta cited Faouzia’s “great voice, powerful vibrato, and unique style” as reasons why he decided to include her on his album. Faouzia noted that she “was still in high school when I heard the news that there was a possibility of me working with him.”
She went on to affirm that the experience was “one of my proudest career moments, so far.” At that time, she decided to pursue a degree in computer engineering at the University of Manitoba, where she enrolled. In addition, she appeared on the track “Money” by French rapper Ninho, which was included in his studio album Destin, and on July 9, 2019, the song was awarded the “Gold Single” certification.
