Rece Davis Bio, Life and Career:

Rece Davis is a sports television journalist for ESPN. He was birth Laurence Davis on December 14, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, and changed his name the following year. Davis is a host of several other shows on the network and works as an anchor for SportsCenter. Rece Davis, who began his career in the sports broadcasting industry in 1995, now serves as the presenter of ESPN College GameDay. Built by The Home Depot, the show became the network’s marquee college football offering in February 2015, the same month an extension of his six-year deal was announced. In addition, he is the primary host of the on-site coverage that the network provides for the College Football Playoff and the NCAA Men’s Final Four.

Previously, he hosted the pregame, halftime, and postgame studio coverage of Saturday college football for ESPN and the College Football Final with commentators Lou Holtz and Mark May. Additionally, Davis served as a commentator for the ESPN College Football Primetime game on Thursday evenings until 2014, with Jesse Palmer, David Pollack, and Samantha Ponder. He continues to anchor ESPN’s College GameDay basketball travel program and is the play-by-play announcer for several college basketball games.

Davis is a frequent contributor to SportsCenter and ESPN Radio, and he hosted ESPN’s coverage of the NBA Draft in 2012. Additionally, he has contributed to ESPN and ABC’s coverage of the Triple Crown horse race and the NFL Draft. Before that, Davis hosted ESPN2’s weekend RPM 2Night and Sunday morning RPM 2Day programs (1997-1999). He was also the presenter of ESPN2’s NBA 2Night, the network’s daily NBA highlights and news show (1996-1997).

Davis was a sports anchor and reporter for WJRT-TV in Flint, Michigan, from 1993 to 1995 before beginning his career at ESPN. Between 1988 and 1993, he worked as a sports anchor and sports director at WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia. Before that, in 1987, he was a general assignment reporter for WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa while he was a student at the University of Alabama. In addition, between 1983 and 1993, he had freelancing positions as a television play-by-play announcer, studio presenter, and radio announcer for several Alabama media sources.

Cable Fax’s “Best Sports Host” award was presented to Davis in 2008, and he won it. Davis is a native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast news and public affairs from the University of Alabama in 1988. He graduated with high honors from both of these programs. Davis was recognized as the most outstanding graduate of the Broadcast Department in the School of Communication at the University of Alabama in 2001.
Davis spent his childhood in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in Broadcast News and Public Affairs in 1988. Davis is a public affairs and broadcast journalist.

Davis maintained regular work schedules as a freelance television play-by-play announcer, studio presenter, and radio personality in select media outlets around the state. At the same time, he was a student at the University of Alabama. These gigs were mostly unpaid internships. Davis’s career in journalism started in 1987 when he joined WCFT-TV in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as a general assignment reporter.

Davis was honored by the School of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama with an Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2001. After receiving his degree from the University of Alabama, Davis worked for WRBL-TV in Columbus, Georgia, holding various jobs until 1993. Davis worked at the local news network first as a sports reporter; then as the main weekend news presenter, and later on, he was promoted to sports director at WRBL.

Davis moved out of Georgia and into the media market in Flint, Michigan, in 1993. Davis started his career in broadcasting by working as a sports anchor and reporter for WJRT-TV. In this role, the young journalist first came to the notice of ESPN.
In 1993, he uprooted his life and relocated to Flint, Michigan, where WJRT-TV hired him as a sports anchor and reporter. It was then that ESPN first took notice of him.

By March 1995, Davis had relocated to Bristol, Connecticut, where he began working as a reporter for ESPN2’s SportSmash, covering sports news and scores. In 1996 and 1997, he was the studio presenter for NBA 2Night on ESPN2, and then, from 1997 through 1999, he was the studio host for RPM 2Night and RPM 2Day on the same network. In addition, he anchored SportsCenter and occasionally contributed reports to The Dan Patrick Show. Davis is a well-known sports journalist who once presented horse racing broadcasts during the Triple Crown season. He now covers college football and college basketball for SportsCenter. College Football Live, College GameDay, and College Football Final were all hosted by him. In addition to that, he is the host of the basketball road show for College GameDay.

Davis hosted ABC’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008, and FIFA Confederations Cup throughout 2006 and 2009. He was back for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. Davis signed a deal with ESPN until 2021 in 2015, during which he assumed the host job for the College GameDay football road show and continued his career as a basketball play-by-play announcer. However, he no longer worked on Thursday Primetime.
In March 1995, Davis uprooted his life and moved to Bristol, Connecticut, leaving WJRT and Flint behind.

He started his career by landing a job with the ESPN2 show SportSmash, where he was responsible for providing five-minute bulletins on the latest sports news and results. Davis was the presenter of NBA 2Night on ESPN2 from 1996 to 1997. Davis was the studio host for the weekend RPM 2Night and Sunday morning RPM 2Day shows on ESPN2 from 1997 to 1999. After that, Davis became a co-host of the ESPN show SportsCenter, along with several other well-known ESPN personalities.
