Sharon Salzberg Bio, Life, and Career:

Sharon Salzberg, who was born on August 5, 1952, is a teacher of Buddhist meditation methods in the West and a best-selling book who has appeared in The New York Times. 1974 saw the establishment of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, which she, along with Jack Kornfield and Joseph Goldstein, helped to find. She teaches meditation retreats all over the world and focuses primarily on the vipassana (insight) and metta (loving-kindness) practices.

Her works include “Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness” (1995), “A Heart as Wide as the World” (1999), “And real Happiness: The Power of Meditation: A 28-Day Program” (2010), which appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list in 2011, and “Real Happiness at Work” (2013), which is a follow-up to “Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation.” She is the host of the podcast Metta Hour and makes regular contributions to the column On Being.

Salzberg had a difficult childhood due to the fact that her parents separated when she was only four years old, and her father left the family shortly afterward. Salzberg was born in New York City to a Jewish household. When she was nine years old, her mother passed away, and she moved in with her father’s parents Despite the fact that her father had returned to the family when she was eleven years old, he soon overdosed and was later admitted to the hospital.

He was admitted to a mental health facility, and he remained there up until the time of his passing. By the time he was 16, Salzberg had already experienced living with five different families.
