Tress MacNeille Bio, Life, and Career:

Teressa Claire MacNeille (née Payne;  born June 20, 1951]) is an American voice actress. She is known for voicing characters such as Dot Warner on the animated television series Animaniacs and its reboot, Babs Bunny on Tiny Toon Adventures, Chip and Gadget Hackwrench on Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and Daisy Duck in various Disney media since 1999. Her full name is Teressa Claire MacNeille (née Payne). In addition, she has contributed to animated television shows like “The Simpsons,” “Futurama,” “Rugrats,” and “Hey Arnold!”

MacNeille’s childhood passion was cartoons, and she knew from an early age that she wanted to work in the voice acting industry. However, she ultimately decided to pursue a more “practical” line of work because she believed she would never be able to accomplish her childhood dream. After receiving her degree from the University of California at Berkeley, she went on to pursue a career in radio and eventually became a disc jockey.

Before becoming a regular on an animated television show, MacNeille worked in a variety of positions and provided his voice in a number of supporting roles. In her own words, “I’d been doing radio spots, some TV, demos, sound-alikes, industrial narrations—anything that came my way for about two years.” In addition to that, she spent the better part of a decade performing improvised comedy with the group known as The Groundlings.

MacNeille attended acting classes and worked as a casting assistant for voice acting talent agency Bob Lloyd as part of a program that she refers to as “The University of Voice-over.” MacNeille’s first role in an animated show was a part in an episode of the 1979 Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo television series, which Lloyd and another agent, Rita Vennari, secured for her.

She sang and acted (as Lucille Ball) in the music video for “Ricky” (1983), which was based on the I Love Lucy television show and parodied the song “Mickey” by Toni Basil. The song was written by “Weird Al” Yankovic. On the tracks “Pretty Fly for a Rabbi” and “Jerry Springer” from Yankovic’s album Running with Scissors, which was released in 1999, MacNeille and Mary Kay Bergman both made cameo appearances.

In the 1990–1992 run of Tiny Toon Adventures, MacNeille was given the role of Babs Bunny. According to the script’s author, Paul Dini, one of the reasons why MacNeille was a good choice for the part was that she could do the voice of Babs in addition to her impressions’ voices. MacNeille made the following observation: “The most enjoyable aspect of playing Babs is the fact that she is a mimic, just like me…I play Babs, a character who impersonates Billie Burke, Hepburn, Bette Davis, Madonna, and Cher in the piece.

I even have a video of her doing the Jessica Rabbit impression. Animaniacs was a series that was created as a result of the popularity of Tiny Toon Adventures. MacNeille was recruited to lend her voice to one of the show’s three main characters, Dot Warner, due to the fact that Dot’s personality was strikingly comparable to that of Babs Bunny.

The voice director and caster for Animaniacs, Andrea Romano, stated that the casters had “no trouble” choosing Tress MacNeille for the character of Dot because “Tress MacNeille was just hilarious (…) And yet [she had] that edge.”In 1995, MacNeille received a nomination for an Annie Award in recognition of her performance on the show.

With almost 200 credits to her name, she has lent her voice to a wide variety of media, including movies, television episodes, video games, and commercials. According to MacNeille, “The characters that I do all come from people in my own life – as well as the material I’ve stolen from my friends!”. Her voice may be heard lending her likeness to characters such as Agnes Skinner, Brandine Spuckler, and Lindsey Naegle on The Simpsons.

In Futurama, she played the role of Mom, which was her primary responsibility in the show. MacNeille has provided the voice of a variety of characters on a variety of other television shows and cartoons, including Rugrats (as Charlotte Pickles), Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers (as Chip and Gadget Hackwrench), TaleSpin (as Kitten Kaboodle), Histeria!, Hey Arnold!, and Dave the Barbarian (as Fang), in addition to performing dubbing work on English-language anime translations.

Since 1999 and 2000, respectively, she has provided the voice of Daisy Duck and Wilma Flintstone in the Disney animated series. MacNeille also had a role in Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, playing the part of an irate anchorwoman and providing the voice of Elvira’s Great-Aunt Morganna Talbot. Her voice was used in the short film “The Whizzard of Ow,” which starred Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner and was released in 2003.
