Aaron Aryanpur Bio, Life, and Career:

Aaron Aryanpur is a stand-up comedian, artist, and voice actor from in Dallas, Texas, in the United States of America. He has recorded two comedy albums through Stand Up! Records: the first one, titled In Spite Of, was released in 2016 and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard comedy list. The second album, titled Employee of the Day, was released in 2018. Aryanpur was born in Texas to a Persian immigrant father and a Jewish mother. Aryanpur is of Persian and Jewish ancestry. He spent his childhood in the Texas communities of Denton, Palestine, and Plano, and he received his high school diploma from Plano Senior High. As he was growing up, he was a big fan of comedians like George Carlin and Bill Hicks who took a socially conscious stand in their work.

He attended the University of Texas at Dallas for his training in graphic design and received his degree there in the year 2000. In 1998, he came up with the idea for the university’s mascot, Temoc, an anthropomorphic comet with fiery hair who was initially given the moniker “Blaze.” Aryanpur gave his first stand-up comedy performance in the year 2002, and in 2013, he began his career as a comedian on a full-time basis.  His work frequently focuses on his roles as a father and a husband in his home life. According to Jeremy Hallock of the Dallas Observer, Aryanpur’s writing style, which is characterized by long-form stories with an “impeccable sense of rhythm,” avoids the lack of edginess that is typically associated with family comedies by “capturing the anger and frustration that goes with the territory while making it hilarious.”

In his stand-up routines, he rarely discusses issues related to his heritage. Despite the fact that he has stated that “One of the reasons I wanted to do stand-up at the beginning was to give expression to that [Iranian-American] part of myself,” he first wanted to perform stand-up comedy. Amy Martin, a critic for TheaterJones, has remarked that the comedy of Aryanpur achieves an additional dimension as a result of his “ability to convey a feeling of seriousness… Audiences respond positively to the impression of coiled force and solid stability. They are drawn to Aryanpur by the gravitational pull that the city exerts… Aryanpur’s humorous and thought-provoking remarks are full of creative wordplay and logical twists, and he relays the difficulties of the everyman with a dry and precise sense of humor.”

In 2002, fellow comics Raj Sharma and Paul Varghese invited him to join their Indians at the Improv tour, which was a first for Indian-American stand-up comedians. He accepted the invitation.  Although Aryanpur is not Indian of Iranian descent, he was invited because, as he joked in an interview, “they looked around for Indian comics and ran out after only two,” but they needed a third for the tour’s theme to work. Although Aryanpur is not Indian but of Iranian descent, he was invited because “they looked around for Indian comics and ran out after only two.” In addition, Varghese quipped to one of the interviewers that “I introduced myself by saying, “I know this Iranian guy, and his name ends with -pur.” That will have to do.” The competition for the Funniest Comic in Texas in 2012 was won by Aryanpur.

The Dallas Observer has on multiple occasions singled him out for acclaim, the most notable of which was when they selected him as the greatest comic in the city in 2017.  Additionally, it featured him in a list titled “10 Dallas Comedians You Need to Know” in the year 2015[14], and it profiled him as part of a series titled “100 Dallas Creatives” in the year 2014. The local media made note of how his achievements have benefited the entire community, stating that “Aryanpur is one of the reasons why Dallas has a comedy scene.” In the national Up Next Talent Search that was held by Comedy Central in 2013, he made it to the semifinals.

On the television show Laughs that airs on Fox, he has appeared on multiple occasions. He is frequently seen performing in comedy clubs all over the United States, as well as on cruise ships and at comedy festivals, such as South by Southwest, Gilda’s LaughFest in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dallas Comedy Festival, Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival, and the Plano Comedy Festival. He has made an appearance on the podcast Comedy Central.  Following his performance as an opening act on Maz Jobrani’s Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, Aryanpur joined Jobrani in 2013 as a co-host of his fatherhood podcast, Minivan Men.
