Arn Anderson Bio, Life, and Career:

Martin Anthony Lunde, who was born on September 20, 1958, is an American professional wrestling road agent, author, and retired professional wrestler who is better known by the ring name Arn Anderson.  Martin Anthony Lunde was given the name Arn Anderson in the ring. He is presently under contract to work as a manager for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Although he is widely considered one of the greatest tag team wrestlers in the history of the sport, he also had a successful singles career and won the NWA/WCW World Television Championship four times. He referred to this championship as his “world title” throughout his career.

The partnerships that Anderson had with Ric Flair and other members of the wrestling stable The Four Horsemen during his time in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and World Championship Wrestling were the high points of Anderson’s professional wrestling career (WCW). After he retired from wrestling, he worked for WWE as a producer until 2019, when he made the transition to AEW. Anderson was recognized as a member of the Four Horsemen and inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 31, 2012, as part of the ceremony. Brock Anderson, the man’s son, has also followed a career in professional wrestling and is currently working for AEW.

Lunde started his professional wrestling career on January 2, 1982, in Georgia Championship Wrestling under the ring name Jim Vertaroso. He had been taught by Ted Lipscomb before beginning his career (Allen). He spent the better part of the year competing in various indie wrestling promotions located all over the United States. This included a brief stint competing for Bill Watts in Mid South Wrestling between the years 1982 and 1983. In the middle of 1983, he found his way to Southeastern Championship Wrestling, which was a promotion that was linked with the NWA and was based out of Tennessee and Alabama. Lunde quickly became a member of Ron Fuller’s Stud Stable before the end of the year, and he did so while racing under the moniker “Super Olympia.” During the year 1984, Lunde was successful in the tag team ranks, capturing the NWA Southeastern Tag Team Championship four times with Mr. Olympia and once with Pat Rose.

Anderson was also successful as a singles wrestler on January 4, 1986, when he won the vacant NWA Television Championship. This achievement brought him additional success.  While everything was going on, Anderson continued to hold his position as one-half of the NWA National Tag Team Champions. Despite the fact that Crockett promotions stopped holding the National Tag titles in March, Anderson’s accomplishment as a dual champion helped to enhance his standing within the area. J. J. Dillon was the group’s manager during this time period (1986), and it was at this time that the Andersons, Blanchard, and Flair began referring to themselves as The Four Horsemen.

It was also during this promotion that Lunde first made the acquaintance of Ric Flair, which would later develop into a lifelong friendship between the two. Lunde, on the other hand, parted ways with the business near the conclusion of the year and joined Mid South Wrestling, which is based in Shreveport. Lunde’s stint in Mid South Wrestling was coming to an end, and during the taping of a television show, the Junk Yard Dog said to Bill Watts, the owner of Mid South Wrestling, that Lunde resembled an Anderson. Bill Watts agreed with the observation. Watts placed a call to Jim Crockett and was successful in persuading him to book Lunde.

Lunde eventually found his way to Jim Crockett, Jr.’s Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, which was centered in the states of Virginia and North and South Carolina. Following the acquisition of Georgia Championship Wrestling by rival promoter Vince McMahon, the corporation had already expanded its operations into Georgia at this point. Lunde and Ole Anderson, a tag team wrestler who attained legendary status in the Georgia and Mid-Atlantic areas, shared a striking physical resemblance to one another. Lunde was a strong doppelganger of Ole Anderson. Ole saw that Lunde’s style was a no-nonsense approach in the ring and that he specialized in working over a part of an opponent’s body during the match, similar to Ole himself.

Ole also noticed that Lunde worked over a section of an opponent’s body throughout the match. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew was reformed with Lunde taking the place of Gene Anderson and adopting the identity “Arn Anderson,” which is the kayfabe name of Ole Anderson’s nephew. Anderson decided to collaborate with Lunde in order to assist the latter in developing his skills. After successfully defending their NWA National Tag Combination Championship in March 1985, the team rose to prominence in the region almost immediately.  Arn and Ole defended the belts throughout the course of the year, with their most prominent match being featured as part of the card for Starrcade 1985 on Thanksgiving night. Despite challenges from Wahoo McDaniel and Billy Jack Haynes, the Crew was able to successfully defend its titles.

As the year 1985 progressed into its second half, the Andersons, along with fellow heels Tully Blanchard and Ric Flair, began to face adversaries in common, which led to the formation of a loose alliance between the four of them. The foursome frequently teamed up in six-man and sometimes eight-man tag matches or interfered in each other’s bouts to either help score a victory or, at the very least, to prevent each other from losing their titles. In addition, they frequently teamed up in six-man and sometimes eight-man tag matches. The alliance immediately established itself as a formidable opponent inside the region, engaging in feuds with some of the most prominent figures in the company, including Dusty Rhodes, Magnum T. A., The Road Warriors, and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.

Anderson also possessed a wonderful talent to conduct interviews, which he used to develop the narratives in which he was involved. Because of his talent for improvising during interviews, he was the one who came up with the name “Four Horsemen” for the stable. He compared the arrival of the wrestlers to an event and the aftermath of their wrath to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the name stuck. Dusty Rhodes was able to dethrone Anderson as NWA Television Champion on September 9, 1986, after Anderson had maintained his dominance over the title for the better part of the year. Anderson had held the title for slightly more than nine months.
