In addition to that, he has a passion for baseball. He got off to a rocky start early in life when he was arrested for possessing cannabis when he was a young guy.

When he and his brothers decided to try out for a role in the comic show ‘The Second City,’ it was a step in the right direction for their lives. After this, he began appearing in episodes of “Saturday Night Live.” His first film to be commercially successful was called “Meatball.”

After that came the cult masterpiece “Caddyshack,” as well as commercial successes like “Stripes” and “Tootsie.” The film ‘Ghostbusters’ was easily his most successful endeavor. He appeared in dramatic productions such as “Wild Things,” “Cradle Will Rock,” and “Hamlet,” as well as the critically praised film “The Royal Tenenbaums,” which was released in 2001.

He lent his voice to animated characters in shows like ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’, where he played Garfield and Mr. Badger, among others. He is not represented by any agents or managers, and he does not have an entourage to accompany him.

Through the organization Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E. ), which he has supported with a sizable contribution, he works to ensure that low-income elderly citizens have access to housing that is affordable. He received his elementary education at St. Joseph and his secondary education at Loyola Academy. In his teenage years, he worked as a golf caddy to help pay for his tuition at the Jesuit high school where he was enrolled.

He was the lead vocalist of a band named the Dutch Masters when he was a teenager, and he also participated in high school and community theater productions. He started out at Regis University in Denver, but he eventually left school and moved back to Illinois.

In 1970, he was taken into custody at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago for attempting to smuggle cannabis. He was found guilty and given a sentence of probation after his sentencing.

He followed in his brother’s footsteps and joined the cast of the improvisational comedy show ‘The Second City’ in Chicago, where he had the opportunity to learn under Del Close. His life was given purpose as a result of this, and he began performing.

In 1975, he was given a role on the ABC variety show Saturday Night Live, which ended up not lasting very long. After another year had passed, NBC extended an invitation to him to appear on Saturday Night Live. He participated in all three seasons of it.

In 1979, he was cast in the critically acclaimed film “Meatballs,” which went on to become a commercial success. After that came ‘Where the Buffalo’s Roam,’ in which he played the role of Hunter S. Thompson. Despite this, the movie was a failure.

With the release of the cult hit ‘Caddyshack’ in 1980, he was able to rebuild his reputation as an actor. In the years that followed, he appeared in critically acclaimed films like “Stripes” and “Tootsie,” both of which were commercial successes.

In 1984, he appeared in the film ‘The Razor’s Edge,’ which he also helped to write. Because the movie did not perform particularly well at the box office, he was so disheartened that he took a break from acting for four years, during which time he only appeared in cameo appearances.

He took a break from acting, with the exception of a cameo appearance in “Little Shop of Horrors” in 1986, so that he could spend more time with his family and attend classes at the Sorbonne to study philosophy and history.

With the release of ‘Scrooged’ in 1988, he made his comeback to the film industry. The following year saw the release of the sequel film titled “Ghostbusters II.” Even the movie “Quick Change,” which he and Howard Franklin directed together, was a collaboration.

Explaining his passion for the sport of golf, he published the semi-autobiographical book “Cinderella Story: My Life in Golf” in 1999. The book is titled “Cinderella Story.”

Once he made the decision to act in dramatic roles, his career took off, and he went on to play in films such as ‘Wild Things,’ ‘Cradle Will Rock,’ and ‘Hamlet,’ as well as the critically praised film ‘The Royal Tenenbaums,’ which was released in 2001.Both ‘Garfield: The Movie’ (released in 2004) and ‘Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties’ (released in 2006) featured him as the voice of the cartoon character Garfield.

In 2004, he was a part of the film ‘The Aquatic Life’ directed by Wes Anderson. In addition, he had a role in the film ‘Broken Flowers’ directed by Jim Jarmusch. The next year, he had small appearances in the films “The Darjeeling Limited” and “Get Smart,” both of which were released.
