D.J. Cotrona Bio, Life and Career:
D.J. Cotrona is an American actor who gained widespread recognition for his roles in the television series “From Dusk to Dawn” and the film “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” After being born and brought up in New Haven, Connecticut, he eventually relocated to Boston. At ‘Northeastern University,’ he pursued his education to become a legal professional. In the middle of his second year of college, he came to the realization that acting was something he was truly passionate about.
He made the decision to pursue his acting ambition. Even when he was a young man, he had a keen interest in motion pictures. After some time, he relocated to Los Angeles and immediately started trying out for roles. After some initial difficulty, he made his acting debut in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in the year 2003. After that, he went on to play a supporting role in the television series “Skin.” He made his acting debut in the supporting role of ‘Sean’ in the horror thriller ‘Venom’ in 2005, which was his first film appearance.
After that, he became a leading actor in movies like “Love Is the Drug” and “Dear John.” However, in 2013, he was given his big break when he was cast in the role of “Flint” in the action movie “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” which was a massive hit at the box office. Since then, he has gone on to have a successful acting career. On television, he is most known for his role as “Seth Gecko” in the series “From Dusk to Dawn,” which was created by Robert Rodriguez.
Donald Joseph Cotrona was born on May 23, 1980 in New Haven, Connecticut, to parents Donald and Sheree Cotrona. D.J. Cotrona is the son of Donald and Sheree Cotrona. While his mother was employed in the teaching profession, the man’s father worked in the recycling industry. In addition to being of Italian, German, Hungarian, Polish, Austrian, and English descent, Cotrona also has some Polish and Austrian ancestry.
Ever since he was a young man, he has always placed a high priority on his health. He put in a lot of time skateboarding and working out in order to stay in shape. In addition to this, he had a significant passion for storytelling and cinema. As a young boy, he and his pals were involved in the production of a number of short films. In spite of this, the idea of his working in the film industry did not occur to him until a significant amount of time later.
Instead of wanting to be a doctor, he wanted to be a lawyer. Soon after receiving his diploma from high school, he relocated to the city of Boston and enrolled in the legal studies program at “Northeastern University.” During his first year of school, he worked as an intern at a law firm during the summer. It was at that time that he came to the conclusion that he did not want to pursue a career as a lawyer and that his actual interest lay in the film industry.
When he was a student in college, he started appearing in plays that were put on in the theater. Soon after, he reached the conclusion that he wanted to pursue a career in acting, and he traveled to Los Angeles to pay a visit to a friend who lived there. He never went back to college and instead started trying out for parts in movies and television shows. Grief was the name of the episode that he made his debut as an actor in back in 2003, when he was only 23 years old.
It was an episode of the police procedural series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In the series, he had a recurring role as “Donovan Alvarez.” In the same year, he was given the part of ‘Adam Roam,’ a pivotal character in the television drama series titled ‘Skin,’ which was cast for him. He made an appearance in a total of six episodes of the show. Despite this, the show was canceled after only three episodes since it received a lot of negative feedback. Despite this, all of the episodes of the series were eventually shown on the network known as “SOAPnet.”
Additionally, in the year 2003, he was a strong contender for the part of ‘Ryan Atwood’ on the television show ‘The O.C.’ However, he was eliminated from the show in the eleventh hour before it aired. His acting ability had already been demonstrated in the film ‘Skin’ by that point. In 2004, he appeared as a main character in the pilot for the show Hollywood Division, however the show was not picked up by any network. Cotrona made his debut in the film industry with the 2005 horror picture titled “Venom,” in which he played the role of “Sean.”
In spite of this, the movie was a failure on both the critical and financial fronts when it was finally released.
His subsequent film effort was titled “Love is the Drug,” and it was released in 2006. A sneak peek of the film was shown at the “Slamdance Film Festival.” Although it received mainly excellent reviews, the movie was not successful at the box office. On the other hand, viewers thought the actors in the film did a good job. In the same year, Cotrona had an appearance on the drama series ‘Windfall’ playing the role of a supporting character named ‘Sean Mathers.’ Following the airing of 13 episodes, the show was pulled from the air.
