David Axelrod Bio, Life, and Career:

David M. Axelrod is a political consultant and analyst based in the United States. He is also a former official in the White House. His birthday is February 22, 1955. His role as the top strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns is what brought him the most notoriety. Axelrod was given the position of Senior Advisor to the President shortly after Barack Obama was elected. Soon after, at the beginning of 2011, he resigned from his position and went on to become the Senior Strategist for President Obama’s victorious re-election campaign in 2012. Although Axelrod defined his boyhood as “extremely chaotic,” he did not elaborate on the specific events that led to this descriptor being applied to his youth.

When Axelrod was a student, he covered politics for the Hyde Park Herald and interned at the Chicago Tribune. Both of these experiences helped him get their respective jobs. In 1977, close to the time that Axelrod was receiving his degree from college, his father took his own life. At the University of Chicago, he met the woman who would later become his wife, Susan Landau, who was studying business and was the daughter of a research doctor named Richard L. Landau. They got married in 1979. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in June of 1981. A diagnosis of epilepsy was made for her when she was just seven months old. Axelrod says that Lauren suffered from severe seizures for a period of time, which meant that her treatment consisted of an ever-evolving pharmaceutical schedule.

As a result, she was left with a developmental disability; yet, she continued her education in a regular classroom setting. After she graduated from high school, her family had a difficult time finding programs that would keep her happy and fulfilled. In 2002, however, they were able to successfully place her in Misericordia, a big group home that is set up like a dormitory, and she now leads an active life there. In contrast to the prevalent approach, which is to move exclusively toward smaller group homes, Axelrod advocates for a flexible and mixed approach to group homes and supportive environments for people like his daughter beginning in 2021.
