David Letterman Biography

David Letterman was born on April 12, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Harry Joseph Letterman, a florist, and Dorothy Marie Letterman Mengering, a secretary for the Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis. Harry Joseph Letterman was David’s father, and Dorothy Marie Letterman Mengering was David’s mother. She is one of his siblings. He lived in the area around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and enjoyed collecting model cars in his spare time. As he was growing up, he looked up to his father and admired the way he could make people laugh with jokes and keep a party lively. David was a young boy when his father had a heart attack and passed away as a result. In the end, he passed away at the age of 57 after suffering a second heart attack. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School and currently works at the Atlas Supermarket in the neighborhood.

He received his degree in radio and television from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, in 1969 after completing his studies there. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications. David worked at the college’s student-run radio station, which was known as WBST. In 1975, he made the move to Los Angeles with the intention of becoming a comedy writer, and he immediately began making appearances at a comedy club known as The Comedy Store.
