Diedrich Bader Bio, Life and Career:

Diedrich Bader is an actor whose naturally boyish good looks, combined with his tall, rangy frame, have made him a perfect fit for comedic roles. On the evening of Christmas Eve in 1966, Diedrich Bader was born in Alexandria, Virginia. His mother, Gretta Bader, was a notable sculptor, and his father, William Bader, served as Chief of Staff of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during the Carter administration.

Diedrich Bader is a former Republican congressman. Young Bader was particularly fond of Charlie Chaplin, and he made his stage debut at the age of four, imitating the Little Tramp at a revival theater during an unexpected intermission after a rare Chaplin film jammed in the projector. When Bader was two years old, he moved to Paris, France, with his family.

There, the boy was exposed to a steady diet of classic American comedies. Bader and his family moved back to the United States in time for him to start his senior year of high school, and he went on to complete his education at the North Carolina School for the Arts. During spring break, Bader took a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she ran into a casting agent. The agent set up an audition for Bader to play a supporting role in a television pilot.

Bader was ultimately successful in landing the major part, and despite the fact that the pilot was never picked up by a network, it was the impetus for Bader to move to Los Angeles and launch a full-time acting career. He started getting roles as a guest on episodic television shows including Cheers, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, among others.

In 1993, Bader was selected to play the role of the Searcher on the television series Danger Theater, a parody of action-adventure shows that lasted only a few seasons. Penelope Spheeris, who directed the episodes of Danger Theater, recalled Bader when she was casting for her film The Beverly Hillbillies (1993), which was based on the successful comedy that aired in the 1960s and 1970s.

Bader’s performance was one of the comedic high points of the movie, and he won the part of Jethro Bodine, a jovial but dimwitted character in the film. Bader’s visibility considerably increased as a result of the movie, and in 1995, he was cast on The Drew Carey Show as the character Oswald, who lacked logical reasoning.

Bader’s success on The Drew Carey Show led to notable supporting roles in motion pictures, such as Office Space and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. He also began doing voice work for a number of animated television projects, such as Pepper Ann, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Kim Possible. Bader’s career began when he was cast as a regular on The Drew Carey Show in 1993. In Bader’s personal life, he tied the knot with actress Dulcy Rogers in the year 1998.

After working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles for a while, Diedrich Bader finally got his big break when director Penelope Spheeris cast him in an episode of the broad comedy show “Danger Theatre” as the heroic but dense and accident-prone biker hero “The Searcher.” Bader’s winning grin helped him land the role (Fox 1993). Spheeris soon gave the actor even more exposure by prevailing against producers.

Who wanted a bigger name when she cast Bader as Jethro (and his sister Jethrine) in her feature version of the outlandish 1960s sitcom “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Spheeris’s decision to cast Bader in the roles of Jethro and Jethrine helped Spheeris give the actor even more exposure (1993). In 1995, Bader was cast as Oswald, one of the lead’s charming but somewhat dim-witted friends, on the ABC sitcom “The Drew Carey Show” (ABC 1995-2004).

He remained on the series through its final season despite several shifts in the show’s premise and cast in later seasons. The show ran on ABC from 1995 to 2004. After establishing himself as a recognizable face on television, Bader went on to appear in a number of films and television shows, the most notable of which are the cult classic comedies “Office Space” (1999), “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” (2001), and “Eurotrip” (2004).

However, his performance as fitness guru Rex in the cult classic “Napoleon Dynamite” is perhaps his most absurdly absurd role to date (2004). Bader has also established a successful and lucrative second career as a voice actor. He has lent his distinctive tones to a number of animated shows, including “Phineas and Ferb” (Disney 2007-2015), as well as the feature films “Ice Age” (2002) and “The Country Bears” (2002).

The unexpectedly popular comedy “Miss Congeniality” was released in 2000, and its sequel, “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous,” was released in 2005. In this film, Bader played the role of a stylist for Sandra Bullock’s character, the inept FBI Agent Gracie Hart. Bader returned to prime-time television in a leading role in the sitcom “American Housewife” (ABC 2016-), co-starring as the affable husband of series star Katy Mixon.
