His maternal grandmother was the daughter of a black mother and a white father who had French and Scots-Irish ancestry. Although he has a significant amount of African-American ancestry, he also has Creole in his family tree. He received his high school education from Baker High School, which is a public institution located in the community of Baker inside East Baton Rouge Parish. During his senior year, Lemon won the election for the position of class president.

Lemon received his education at Louisiana State University, where he identified with the Republican Party and cast his vote for Ronald Reagan. In 2014, CNN gave Don Lemon the opportunity to host a couple of different prime-time series, including The Eleventh Hour and The Don Lemon Show. After the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Lemon began hosting a special program every night in which aviation professionals discussed and analyzed the situation. The program was called “Nightly Flight 370.”This hour was replaced by the news show CNN Tonight as a result of a reorganization of CNN’s schedule following the discontinuation of Piers Morgan Live.

Later on, Don Lemon would take over as the regular host of this hour, and the program would then be known as CNN Tonight with Don Lemon. On May 17, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon was rebranded as Don Lemon Tonight. In February of 2022, CNN made the announcement that Lemon will be the host of a talk show titled “The Don Lemon Show,” which would air on CNN’s then-upcoming streaming service CNN+. April 2022 was the only month that the streaming service was active, and at that time it released two episodes.

It was revealed on September 15, 2022, that Lemon would be co-anchoring a new CNN morning show later that year alongside Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow. Because Lemon is so open in his criticism of Donald Trump, the president has made Lemon a target of his ire. In the beginning of 2018, after President Trump made headlines by referring to several nations, including El Salvador, Haiti, and Honduras as “shitholes” during a discussion on immigration, Don Lemon launched CNN Tonight by declaring, “The president of the United States is racist.

A good number of us were already aware of that.” Lemon conducted interviews with Omarosa Newman and Kellyanne Conway in March of 2016, with the primary elections for the Republican presidential nomination in mind. After Lemon called for Omarosa’s microphone to be turned off because she did not want to begin the interview with his initial question, he switched to a commercial break. There was confusion surrounding the naked picture incident involving US Senator Ted Cruz’s wife. Lemon’s original query was about whether or not she wanted to begin the interview with his inquiry.
