Eric Bischoff Bio, Life, and Career:

Eric Aaron Bischoff is a professional wrestler, a booker for professional wrestling, and a television producer from the United States. Bischoff was born on May 27, 1955. He is most well-known for his roles as Executive Producer and later Senior Vice President of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), as well as his subsequent role as the on-screen General Manager of the Raw brand for WWE. Bischoff has also worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), where he was the Executive Producer of the show Impact Wrestling. Bischoff had a background in amateur martial arts, and he occasionally competed as an in-ring competitor.

Bischoff would go on to become an on-air interviewer and host for the AWA beginning in 1989 and continuing until the company went out of business in 1991. Bischoff began his career at the AWA working in the sales department on the network’s syndicated programming. He became an on-air talent almost by mistake and at the very last minute. Larry Nelson, who was working at the time as an announcer for the AWA, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Verne Gagne and his son, Greg, made the decision to enlist Bischoff, who at first had little want to be in front of the camera, to stand in for Nelson during the interviews after Nelson’s sudden inability to participate in the interviews. Bischoff claimed that they considered him a good candidate for the position because he was immediately available in the television studio and because he was already dressed professionally in a suit and tie when they saw him. Bischoff tried out for a job as an announcer with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the year 1990, but he was not selected for the role.
