Folarin Falana (Listen) (born October 27, 1990), better known by his stage name Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and actor. He began his career while he was still in secondary school by forming a group called The School Boys with a friend. He did not begin his professional career as a music artist until the year 2009. After the release of the song “Marry Me,” which featured vocal contributions from Poe and Yemi Alade, Falz’s popularity increased significantly. At the moment, he is the owner of an independent recordthat goes by the name Bahd Guys Records. In 2014, he issued his debut studio album, titled Wazup Man.

2015 saw the release of his second studio album, titled Tales That Touch. In 2017, he released album 27, and in 2019, he released his fourth studio album titled Moral Education. Falz was born in the local government area of Mushin, which is located in Lagos State. His parents, Funmi and Femi Falana are both attorneys and human rights advocates. After completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja and being awarded his degree, he was admitted to the bar in the year 2012.

Falz attended St. Leo’s Catholic Primary School in Ikeja and Olashore International School in Osun State for his elementary and secondary education, respectively. Both schools are located in Osun State. He attended the University of Reading in England and received an LLB honors degree in Law when he graduated. This makes him an alumnus of the university.

During his time in high school, Falz began pursuing music as a hobby. Along with a close friend, he launched a musical project under the moniker “The School Boys.” In 2009, he released a mixtape under the title Shakara: The Mixtape, which featured a compilation of some of his previous recordings. In 2011, Falz debuted a single under the name “Wahz Up Man.” Thereafter, he released “High Class” and “Currency,” both of which helped him gain footing in the Nigerian music business. Falz was featured as one of the “Artists to Watch in 2014” on the tooXclusive website on January 2, 2014.

Wazup Guy, Falz’s debut studio album, was released on May 30, 2014, and was titled Wazup Guy. The album contained productions from a variety of artists, including Studio Magic, DJ Woske, Tin Tin, and Spellz, among others. There are a total of 18 tracks on Wazzup Man, and guest appearances come from the likes of Olamide, Show Dem Camp, Phenom, and Yemi Alade. Among the songs on the album are “See Me,” “Toyin Tomato,” “Senator,” “Right Now,” “Jessica,” “High Class,” “Marry Me,” “Oh God,” “The Advise,” and “Cool Parry,” which received high praise from members of the music press.

Falz made his comeback on January 31, 2015, with the release of an official single named “Ello Bae.” In point of fact, it was his first solo effort following the release of Wazzup Man, and he ended up winning multiple honors for it. At the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Falz’s chart-topping single “Marry Me” earned him a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of the Year” category. These awards are given out annually in Nigeria. At the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, he was recognized for this achievement by receiving a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of the Year” category. In addition to that, he was considered a candidate for the titles of “Best Rap Act of the Year” and “Best New Act to Watch.”On January 31, 2015, he released a track under the name “Ello Bae,” which earned him a nomination for “Best Street Hop Artiste of the Year” in the 2015 The Headies award ceremony.

On the 3rd of the same month, he made the announcement that he would be releasing his second studio album on the 17th of the same month, and it was titled Tales That Touch. As a result of his performance as Segun in Funke Akindele’s television series Jenifa’s Diary, Falz was honored with the title of “Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series” at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. At the 2016 BET Awards, held in June of that year, the audience chose Falz as their winner for the category of “Viewer’s Choice Best New International Talent.”

Chemistry is a seven-track EP that was released on October 27, 2016, and was a collaborative effort between Falz and Simi. Sess was the only producer on the EP. Falz had collaborated with Simi in the past, most notably on the singles “Jamb Question” and “Soldier.” As a present to himself on the occasion of his 27th birthday, rapper Falz issued a new album on October 27, 2017, entitled 27. Due to the lack of promotion that occurred prior to the album’s launch, it came as something of a shock.

It included smash singles such as “Bhad Baddo Baddest,” “Wehdone sir,” and “Something light,” and it had a total of seventeen tracks. Davido, Olamide, Burna Boy, Wande Coal, Maleek Berry, Sir Dauda, Medikal, Terry Apala, and Ycee were some of the well-known musicians who performed at the event. The majority of the album was created by Sess in his capacity as an in-house producer. Maleek Berry and studio magic each contributed to the production of a few tracks on the album. The album was tremendously successful, and as a result, it was nominated for a number of honors and prizes, including one for the Headies Award in the category of Rap Album of the Year.

A music video by Falz titled “This Is Nigeria” was released in May of 2018, and it was inspired by Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” song. It brought attention to problems plaguing Nigeria, such as bribery and corruption. A few months later, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) asserted that the song should not be played because it had offensive lyrics.

After being questioned about it, Falz responded as follows: “If they ban this song, then I do not understand them because the song is not in any way a vulgar song,” On the other hand, Falz files a lawsuit against NBC for N100 Million. The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards took place on September 1, 2018, and Falz received the award for “Best Supporting Actor” for his portrayal as Quam in Tope Oshin Ogun’s movie New Money. With this win, Falz became the first Nigerian singer to have won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards twice.

House21TV was the name that Falz gave to the film production firm that he launched in August 2020. While Falz was in the process of announcing his brand new film production firm, he also turned to Instagram to announce a brand new comedy series called Therapy that will be available only on YouTube. Falz made the announcement on his Instagram page in March 2022 that he will be doing things a little differently this year.

He also stated that he had deleted all of his posts from the previous year to ensure that it was a new dispensation by dropping his first official single for the year with BNXN also called Buju titled “Ice Cream.” The song was a collaboration with Buju. He also acquired a vehicle that included an imprinted ticketing booth for Falz Ice Cream and drove around the city of Lagos handing out free ice cream to residents in an effort to spread love among the population.
