The Weeknd Bio, Life, and Career:

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye was born on February 16, 1990 in the city of Toronto, which is located in the province of Ontario. He is the only child of Ethiopian immigrants Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu, who divorced shortly after his birth. His parents’ names are Makkonen Tesfaye and Samrawit Hailu. His mother and his grandmother took care of him when he was growing up in what was then the city of Scarborough.

According to an interview he gave with Rolling Stone in 2015, he described his connection with his father as “cold.” “I faintly remember seeing him when I was six, and then again when I was around 11 or 12 years old, and by that time, he already had a new family and children. I can’t even tell you where he lived because I only ever saw him for a few hours at a time. I have no doubt that he is a nice human being. I never judged him.
