Headie One Bio, Life and Career:

Irving Ampofo Adjei is a British rapper and musician who was born on October 6, 1994. He is professionally known as Headie One (he earlier went by the name Headz). In 2018, he released his second solo mixtape under the title ‘The One,’ which featured the track ‘Know Better’ featuring the rapper RV; the song was dubbed an “underground hit” after its release. Headie One, who is a part of the UK drill group OFB and is widely regarded as a pioneer and innovator of the UK drill scene, is a member of the group.

The songs “18hunna” starring rapper Dave, “Only You Freestyle” featuring rapper Drake, “Ain’t It Different” featuring rappers AJ Tracey and Stormzy, and his solo single “Both” are the ones that have brought him the most attention. The song “18hunna” reached its highest position on the UK Singles Chart at number 6, while “Only You Freestyle” reached its highest position at number 5, and “Ain’t It Different” reached its highest position at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart.

A number of mixtapes have been distributed by Headie One. The year 2019 marked the release of his seventh mixtape, which he dubbed Music x Road. The album reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum. Edna is the name of his first studio album, which was published in 2020 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The record was a tribute to his mother, Edna Duah, and it was titled after her.

Headie One has been a part of a number of fights and scandals, and as a result, he has been sentenced to serve time in jail on four different occasions. In the Tottenham neighborhood of London, in the Broadwater Farm housing estate, Adjei spent his childhood. He comes from Ghana and is fluent in the Twi language. Because his mother Edna Duah passed away while Adjei was only three years old, his father and his sister were responsible for his upbringing

In his younger years, he was described as being “obsessed” with football, and he even played for the Haringey Borough Football Club. Before he broke his ankle, he was scheduled for a tryout with Stevenage F.C., but the injury forced him to retire from the sport.

Although he started rapping when he was still in his early teens, he didn’t start taking it seriously until after he was released from prison for the first time. He was given the nickname “50p” when he was little because his head looked like a coin. This is where he got his name. Around the beginning of the 2010s, Adjei started releasing songs under the name Headz, including as a member of a band called Star Gang He only ever released one mixtape under that moniker, and it was dubbed Headz or Tails.

It was published in 2014. RV, a fellow Tottenham rapper, was also a member of Star Gang. He and Headie One became frequent collaborators, working together on projects such as the release of the mixtapes Sticks & Stones (2016) and Drillers x Trappers (2017). They were all members of OFB, which was a drill group operating out of the Broadwater Farm estate in the United Kingdom.

His subsequent solo mixtape under the alias Headie One was named The One and was released in February of 2018. This includes “Know Better” by RV, which became a popular song in underground music communities. This was his debut record after signing a contract with Relentless Records, which is a division of Sony Music.

In the month of May, he was featured on the song “Missing” by Belly Squad, which reached its highest position on the UK Singles Chart at number 84. After this, in June of 2018, he released another solo mixtape titled “The One Two,” which debuted at position number 32 on the UK Albums Chart. In November, he embarked on his very first tour across the entirety of the UK.

In January of 2019, his track “18Hunna,” which featured Dave, debuted at number 6 on the UK chart. This was the highest position ever achieved by a drill artist on the UK chart before “Body” by Russ Millions and Tion Wayne. Drillers x Trappers II was Adjei’s sixth mixtape overall and his third collaboration with RV. It was released in March. It debuted at position number 21 on the Albums Chart in the UK. “Match Day” is the first song to be released from the mixtape, and it debuted on the Singles Chart at number 86.

In July, he was featured on the track “I Spy” by Krept and Konan, which reached its highest position at number 18 on the charts. Music x Road was Adjei’s seventh mixtape in the past five years, and it was released in August 2019. The release received acclaim from reviewers,  and was praised for being a departure from his typical sound; the music magazine NME referred to it as being “often far from drill.” It was his biggest chart placing to date, debuting at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart when it was released. In addition to the single “18Hunna,” which had been released beforehand, many tracks from the mixtape also charted, including “Back to Basics” with Skepta, “Rubbery Bandz,” and “Both.”

In the month of December 2019, he was featured on the track “Audacity” from Stormzy’s upcoming album Heavy Is the Head. During the month of April in the year 2020, Adjei worked with Fred Again… to release his mixtape titled “Gang.” In July 2020, he released a track titled “Only You Freestyle,” which featured Drake and was produced by M1onthebeat. The single reached number 5 on the charts. His collaboration with Stormzy and AJ Tracey on the song “Ain’t It Different” reached its best position on the UK Singles Chart in August 2020, at number two. This is his highest charting single to date. On January 21, 2021, the song was awarded the platinum certification by the British Phonographic Industry.
