Richard Mofe-Damijo Bio, Life, and Career:
The author is Richard Eyimofe Evans. Mofe-Damijo, who was born on July 6, 1961, is a Nigerian actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former journalist. He is better known by his stage name, RMD. In 2009, he also served as Delta State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism. He has extensive experience in the field. He took up the trophy for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005. At the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2016, he was honored for his lifetime of work with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
In the Delta State hamlet of Aladja, which is part of the Udu Kingdom, Mofe-Damijo was born. He received his education at Midwest College, Warri, and Anglican Grammar School, where he also participated in the school’s drama program. In order to further his education, he enrolled in the University of Benin and focused his studies on the Theater Arts. Mofe-Damijo made his way back to the University of Lagos in 1997 to pursue a degree in law there; he eventually received his diploma in 2004.
Following his graduation from the university, Mofe-Damijo appeared in the soap opera Ripples, but he became far more well-known for his role as the antagonist Segun Kadiri in the competing soap opera Checkmate. Prior to that time, he worked as a writer for Concord Newspapers Metro Magazine, and Quality, among other publications. The first movie for which he was credited as both a writer and producer were called “Out of Bounds.”
Mofe-Damijo was presented with the prize for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the very first ceremony of the African Movie Academy Awards, which took place in 2005. On January 5, 2017, he served as a co-host for the 2016 GLO-CAF Awards alongside Mimi Fawaz, a journalist from Nigeria. On December 8, 2021, he was presented with a Black Star Honor award in Ghana at the Rhymes on Da Runway event, which took place in Gold Coast, Ghana. In 2008, Mofe-Damijo was given the position of Special Advisor of Culture and Tourism by the governor of Delta State at the time, Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Two years later, in 2009, he was promoted to the position of Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria. His tenure ended in 2015. May Ellen ‘MEE’ Ezekiel was a journalist, publisher, and talk show host. Mofe-Damijo was married to her for many years. After her passing in 1996, Mofe-Damijo wed the television personality Jumobi Adegbesan, who eventually moved on from his career in television presenting to pursue a career in the business world. Mofe-Damijo is a father to five kids in total; two of them are with his present wife, while the other three are from a prior marriage.
