Rob Blake Bio, Life and Career:

Robert Bowlby Blake is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who has retired. He was birth on December 10, 1969. In 1988, he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the NHL Draft. During his first 11 seasons with the Kings, he participated in the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals, was awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy, and was the team captain for five seasons. After being moved to the Colorado Avalanche in 2001, Blake helped the team win the Stanley Cup that same year. Following a return to Los Angeles for two seasons, Blake signed with the Sharks in 2008 and served as the team’s captain until the end of the 2009–10 season.

Blake played for Team Canada in three straight Winter Olympics on the international stage, earning gold in 2002. These Olympics took place in 1998, 2002, and 2006.
Blake spent his childhood in Simcoe, Ontario, where he was a member of many successful hockey teams while playing minor hockey. Blake was a member of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championship teams at every level, from Novice to Bantam, where he won two titles and was a teammate of future NHL goalkeeper Dwayne Roloson.

In the Midwestern Ontario Jr.B. league, Blake was a member of the junior basketball teams for both the Brantford Classics and the Stratford Cullitons. Following the conclusion of the 1985-1986 season, Blake was picked by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL in the third round (31st overall) at the 1986 OHL Priority Selection. Blake chose not to report to the Greyhounds to pursue an NCAA scholarship; he later joined the Stratford Cullitons for the 1986-1987 season after signing a contract with the team. Blake attended Bowling Green State University (CCHA) on a scholarship, where he was a member of the Falcons football team for three years.

In the 1988 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the Los Angeles Kings chose Blake with the 70th overall pick. Between the years 1996 and 2001, he had the rank of captain. After collecting a career-high 23 goals and 50 points during the 1997–1998 season, Blake was awarded the James Norris Trophy, given to the National Hockey League’s finest defenseman. On February 21, 2001, the Kings sent Blake and Steven Reinprecht to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Adam Deadmarsh, Aaron Miller, Jared Aulin, and a first-round selection (David Steckel). After playing for the Los Angeles Kings for 11 seasons, Blake was moved to the Colorado Avalanche late in the 2000–01 season. During his time there, he was a member of the school’s ice hockey team for three years. In 1988, he was courted by the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League, and he made his NHL debut with the club during the 1989–1990 season, appearing in four games.
