Donald Audette Bio, Life and Career:

Donald Daniel Audette is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who was born on September 23, 1969. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for a total of fourteen seasons, splitting time between the Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, and Florida Panthers. Audette’s full name is Donald Daniel Audette.

The Buffalo Sabres selected him in the ninth round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, placing him 183rd overall in the draft pool. In spite of his little size, Audette became well-known for his tough and combative style of play, and he quickly won the hearts of Buffalo hockey fans by scoring 31 goals in his rookie season. However, his rough-and-tumble style of play caused him to spend extended periods of time on injury reserve, including severe knee problems that brought an end to the seasons he played in 1992–1993, and 1995–1996.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired Audette in a trade in the year 1998. Two years later, he reached his career high in goals (34) and assists (45), and he was selected to play in the NHL All-Star game. He did all of this while playing for the Atlanta Thrashers.

Audette was dealt back to the Buffalo Sabres in March of 2001, and later that summer, he signed a contract with the Dallas Stars that was for multiple millions of dollars. The Montreal Canadiens acquired Audette in a trade smack dab in the middle of the 2001–02 campaign. This time, he was headed there. In a game on December 1, 2001, against the New York Rangers, Audette had the tendons of his forearm cut by an opponent’s skate. He required life-saving surgery to fix the major damage, but he was able to recuperate in time for the playoffs despite the extensive injury.

After spending the first half of the 2003–04 season struggling to build a name for himself with the Florida Panthers, Audette decided to retire from playing professionally.

While playing for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League (AHL) before joining the National Hockey League, Audette was recognized as the best rookie in the league and was awarded the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award. As of recently, Audette has taken on the role of an amateur scout for the Canadiens.

Daniel Audette, who was born in 1996 and is the son of Donald Audette, was selected first overall in the selection for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2012 and was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the NHL Entry selection in 2014.
