Betsy Fischer Martin is an American journalist who was born on February 17, 1970. She is the recipient of an Emmy Award and a former TV news executive who worked for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” which is the longest-running program in the history of television. Both the Executive Director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University and the Executive-in-Residence are titles that she currently holds. Martin is also a Fellow at American University’s Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in addition to his other responsibilities there. She is on the International Advisory Council of APCO Worldwide in addition to being the founder and principal of her own consulting business, Fischer Martin Media, which specializes in providing media training to corporate executives. Additionally, she is on the board of directors of APCO Worldwide.

Pomeroy, taught voice and piano in Metairie, Louisiana, before she retired and became a member of the New Orleans Opera Chorus. Her grandfather, the Reverend George J. Fischer, served as the pastor of the First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling, Louisiana, until he retired.

Grace King High School, a public high school in Metairie, Louisiana, is where Betsy Fischer Martin received her high school education and from which she graduated in the year 1988. She attended American University in Washington, DC for both her undergraduate and graduate studies, earning both degrees there. She graduated from Cumberland University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992 (Cum Laude), having majored in justice and minored in political science. In 1996, she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in journalism and public affairs. Martin began her professional life by working as an intern in the Political/Poling Unit and on “Meet the Press” at NBC in Washington, District of Columbia, in the year 1991. From 1991 until 2002, she worked in this division at NBC and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Researcher, Associate Producer, Producer, and Senior Producer with “Meet the Press.This coverage included the primaries, the conventions of both parties, the debates, and the broadcasts on election night.

She was promoted to the role of Executive Producer of “Meet the Press” in 2002, and she remained in that role for the subsequent 11 years. During this time period, she was responsible for supervising the program’s editorial content, guest selection, strategic planning, production, marketing, special online programming, and financial decision-making. She oversaw the production of more than 600 live national broadcasts of “Meet the Press” during her tenure as Executive Producer.

In 2008, she was responsible for producing NBC’s coverage of the presidential election for Tom Brokaw, which included party conventions, debates, and election night.
