Dule Hill Bio, Life and Career:

Karim Dule’ Hill, the younger of two sons, was born to parents Jennifer and Bertholomu Hillshire, both of whom were born in Jamaica. His father was an entrepreneur, and his mother taught ballet at the Marie Wildey School of Dance in East Orange, New Jersey. Dule Hill is a tap dancer, actor, and producer. Karim Dule’ Hill is the younger of two sons.

He started taking ballet and tap lessons at his mother’s school in East Orange, New Jersey, when he was three years old. He was born and raised in Sayreville. When he was only 10 years old, the producers of the Broadway musical The Tap Dance Kid hired Hill in the role of understudy for the show’s star, Savion Glover. This was Hill’s first major break in the theater.

He continued to perform in the leading part throughout the musical’s national tour. During those sixteen months, he collaborated with Harold Nicholas, one half of the famous Nicholas Brothers. Subsequently, he performed on stage with Gregory Hines and Jimmy Slyde. Hill had his debut appearance in a feature film during his final year of high school.

The film, titled Sugar Hill (1993), starred him in the role of a young boy who would later be portrayed by Wesley Snipes. In addition to this, he appeared in national advertisements for Kellogg’s Corn Pops cereal, and he was cast as one of the City Kids in the Saturday-morning television series created by the company owned by puppeteer Jim Henson.

More dancing roles followed in the musicals Shenandoah and Little Rascals, but it wasn’t until the 1989 Broadway production of Black and Blue that Hill became fully initiated into the esteemed black rhythm tap tradition, and he began to regard himself as primarily a tap dancer. Hill was exposed to the work of Fayard Nicholas, Cholly Atkins, and Henry LeTang, and he performed with Lon Chaney, George Hillman, and Jimmy Slyde.

In 1996, Hill continued his career in dance by becoming a member of the original cast of Savion Glover’s hard-hitting hoofers in the Tony Award–winning Broadway sensation Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk. In this production, Hill and Glover worked together again. In spite of the fact that he was forced to stop attending college as a result of his commitment to the play, which lasted for two and a half years, he received positive feedback from the casting directors.

His next career boost came in 1999 with starring roles with Freddie Prinze Jr. in the hit feature film She’s All That and Love Songs, opposite Louis Gossett Jr. Despite the enormous success of Noise/Funk, which could have propelled Hill into a full-time career as a tap dancer, Hill’s next career boost came in 1999 with starring roles with Freddie Prinze Jr. The same year, Hill was cast on The West Wing as Charlie Young, a personal aide to President Josiah Bartlet.

The show ran for several seasons, during which time Hill’s role progressed: during the sixth season of the series, Charlie became a Special Aide to the Chief of Staff. Hill’s performance on The West Wing won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Hill’s subsequent role was as pharmaceutical salesman and private investigator Burton “Gus” Guster on the comedy-drama television show Psych, which aired on the USA Network.

In 2011, Hill made his comeback to Broadway to feature in the play Stick Fly, which was produced by Alicia Keyes. The play chronicles the tale of two brothers who each decide to bring home new girlfriends for a family reunion on Martha’s Vineyard. Hill played one of the brothers in the play.He tied the knot with the stunning actress Nicole Lyn in the year 2004.

In 2002, he claimed that they were legally separated due to a misunderstanding and submitted the appropriate paperwork. He is not involved with anybody at this time and is concentrating on his profession. He is prepared to advance his professional standing. The West Wing earned him a nomination for an Emmy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in the year 2002. He was nominated for an Image Award in 2005, 2008, and 2009 respectively.

In 2001 and 2002, he was honored the Screen Actors Guild honors for his work on The West Wing.Hill considers himself to be a tap dancer, despite the fact that he has achieved immense acclaim and name recognition as a television and stage performer. In an interview with Lizzie Goodman for New York Magazine, he said, “I consider myself a tap dancer first.”

He also mentioned that he had a tap dance floor built up in his trailer while filming both The West Wing and Psych. According to Hill, there is not much of a difference between tap performance and theatrical performance. “He says that the whole thing is choreographed and that it is a dance. We are all only moving beings and animals dancing from the moment I step onto the stage till the moment the lights are turned out.”
