Geoffrey Rush Bio, Life, and Career:

Geoffrey Roy Rush AC is a well-known Australian actor who was born on July 6th, 1951. On both the theater and the movie, he is recognized for playing eccentric leading man roles. He is one of only 24 people to have received an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award for their acting work, making him one of the elite group known as “triple crown” winners. In addition to that, he was bestowed with four Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and three British Academy Film Awards. Rush was awarded the title of Australian of the Year in 2012, in addition to serving as the founding president of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

1971 was the beginning of Rush’s professional acting career, which he began with the Queensland Theatre Company. Beginning in 1975, he attended classes at the L’École Internationale de Théatre Jacques Lecoq for a total of two years. Waiting for Godot, The Winter’s Tale, and The Importance of Being Earnest were three of the plays in which Rush was featured as a leading actor in international productions. In 2009, he made his debut on Broadway in the absurdist comedy Exit the King, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Actor in a Play. He went on to win the award. In 2011, he was considered for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for his performance in the play “Diary of a Madman.”

Shine (1996), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor; his other Oscar-nominated parts were for Shakespeare in Love (1998), Quills (2000), and The King’s Speech (2010). He came to attention for his portrayal in Shine (1996), for which he received an Academy Award for Best Actor. The portrayal of Captain Hector Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise (which ran from 2003 to 2017) was largely responsible for propelling Rush to the forefront of mainstream appeal.

His other well-known films include Elizabeth (1998), Les Misérables (1998), Frida (2002), Finding Nemo (2003), Intolerable Cruelty (2003), Munich (2005), Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), and The Book Thief (2013). His career began in the 1970s. Rush was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, on July 6, 1951. His parents, Merle (Bischof), who worked as a sales assistant in a department store, and Roy Baden Rush, who worked as an accountant for the Royal Australian Air Force, were his parents. His mother was of German lineage, while his father had English, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. His father was also of German ancestry.

He has a sister who is older than him. When he was five years old, his parents got a divorce, and after the divorce, his mother brought him to live with her parents in a suburb of Brisbane. Prior to beginning a career in acting, Rush received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Queensland after completing his studies at Everton Park State High School and the University of Queensland. He was discovered by the Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) in Brisbane when he was still attending university there. 1971 marked the beginning of Rush’s work with QTC, during which he participated in 17 productions.

After leaving for Paris in 1975 to attend the L’École Internationale de Théatre Jacques Lecoq and study mime, movement, and theater for two years, Rush returned to the United Kingdom in 1979 to begin his stage career with the Queen’s Theatre Company. In 1979, he and the actor Mel Gibson lived together for four months in the same flat when they were performing together in a stage production of “Waiting for Godot.

“Wrong Side of the Moon was the first play that Rush ever appeared in, and it was staged at the QTC. He spent four years working for the Queen’s Theatre Company, during which time he appeared in a variety of roles in classical plays and pantomimes, such as Juno and the Paycock and Hamlet on Ice. After these events, Rush boarded a plane for Paris, where he continued his education.

William Shakespeare’s plays The Winter’s Tale and Troilus and Cressida are among Rush’s acting accomplishments. The former was performed at The Playhouse in Adelaide in 1987 by the State Theatre Company of South Australia, and the latter was staged at the Old Museum Building in 1989. In addition to that, he played the role of John Worthing, also known as Ernest, in a production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest that is still running (and in which his wife, Jane Menelaus, plays the role of Gwendolen).

In 1981, Rush made his debut in the film Hoodwink, which was an Australian production. The next year, he appeared in the film directed by Gillian Armstrong titled “Starstruck.”During the 1990s, Rush made guest appearances on a variety of television shows, including an episode of the British television series Lovejoy in 1993 in which he played the character of a dentist. In addition to that, Rush kept working in the theater. In 1994, Rush played Horatio in a performance of Hamlet opposite Richard Roxburgh, Jacqueline McKenzie, and David Wenham at the Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney. The production was a Company B production and was staged by David Wenham.

The performance that Rush gave in the 1996 film Shine, for which he was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor, was Rush’s big break in the film industry. Rush had previously studied the piano up until the age of fourteen, but for the role, he began studying the instrument once more after a hiatus of thirty years in order to avoid using a hand double. In the same year, James L. Brooks invited him to Los Angeles to try out for the character of Simon Bishop in As Good as It Gets and offered him the part, but Rush turned it down (Greg Kinnear was cast in the part instead).
