Pesca published Upon Further Review: The Greatest What-Ifs in Sports History in May 2018, an anthology of articles in which authors speculate on possible other sports histories. Slate began publishing Upon Further Review, a podcast based on the book’s chapters, in that same month. Pesca has stated in his podcast The Gist that he is “the offspring of a Catholic and a Jew” and that he “grew up Catholic, a little bit.” Pesca went to college at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he joined the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and became the vice president of the school’s intra-fraternity council. In 1994, he earned his degree from Emory.

Former public relations executive Robin Dolch and Pesca are the parents of their two kids, Milo and Emmett. Pesca’s “Cracker Jack” report, which was originally broadcast on On the Media on August 4, 2001, was honored with the 2001 Murrow Award for Best Radio Feature Reporting. He spent twelve years as a sports correspondent for National Public Radio.
