Raphaël Lessard Bio, Life and Career:

Raphael Lessard (his first name is pronounced “less-ard”; he was born on July 5, 2001) competes in stock car racing at the professional level in Canada. During the current season, he drives for Ed Hakonson Racing in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series on a part-time basis.

In his most recent race, he was a part-time competitor in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for GMS Racing, driving the No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado. In addition, he has competed in the ARCA Racing Series for Venturini Motorsports. In the Truck Series, he has competed for GMS Racing, Kyle Busch Motorsports, and DGR-Crosley.

When Lessard was twelve years old, he won his first race driving an ancient Honda Civic, which he used to get his start in auto racing. After that, he competed in Canadian super late models and Quebec sportsmen before making the move to the United States. His debut in American racing came in the CARS Super Late Model Tour in 2015 when he competed for Toyota Racing Development and David Gilliland Racing.

This was his first time competing in the United States. In 2016, when he was 15 years old and in the tenth grade, he became only the second person from a country other than the United States to win the CARS Super Late Model series championship.

The first person to achieve this was Mario Gosselin, also a Canadian from Quebec, who did it in 1997. This was the first time that Lessard had won the tournament. During the course of the season, he was victorious in four of the ten races that were held, including the championship race that took place at Southern National Motorsports Park. Lessard continued his late model racing career with Toyota and David Gilliland Racing, competing in major events such as the Winchester 400 and the Snowball Derby, in addition to a variety of PASS Late Model, CRA Racing Series, and ARCA Racing Series races.

In the first race of 2017, he was kicked out of an April PASS competition for purposefully crashing into other cars, unlawfully passing when the caution light was on, and inappropriate behavior by his crew.2017 marked his first year competing in the ARCA Racing Series with Venturini Motorsports as his team.

In only his second race at Winchester Speedway, he finished in the top 10 of the field. On February 15, 2019, it was announced that Lessard would drive three races for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series in the No. 46 Toyota Tundra. In his first Truck Series race at Martinsville, Lessard had a starting position of seventh but wound up in fourteenth place. In June, he became a member of the DGR-Crosley team and drove the No. 17 truck at the races at Iowa Speedway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

In 2020, Lessard became a member of KBM and drove the No. 4 Tundra for the entirety of the Truck season. Despite the fact that he did not make it into the playoffs, he became the first French Canadian to win a race in a NASCAR national series when he won his maiden career Truck race at Talladega Superspeedway when he was leading when the caution came out on the final lap.

In 2021, Lessard was passed over for a ride with KBM by John Hunter Nemechek. Subsequently, he made the switch to GMS Racing to drive the No. 24 car. The plans initially envisaged a schedule consisting of 12 races; however, this was later expanded to include the entire season. Lessard was scheduled to drive the No. 87 for SQR Development in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on a part-time basis throughout the entirety of the 2022 season. However, Lessard would later be released from the team before the season even started due to Lessard taking issue with a sexual harassment case involving team owner J. C. Stout. This caused Lessard to be fired from the team.
