Richard Petty Bio, Life, and Career:

Richard Lee Petty was an American stock car racing driver who competed in the NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series (now known as the NASCAR Cup Series) from 1958 until 1992. He is best known for his time behind the wheel of the No. 43 Plymouth/Pontiac for Petty Enterprises. Petty was born on July 2, 1937, and he earned the nickname “The King” during his time behind the wheel.

He comes from a long line of racecar drivers in the Petty family. He is the only driver in Cup Series history to have won the title seven times, a record that is now shared by Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson. He also set the record for most victories in a career with a total of 200 victories. This included setting a new record by winning the Daytona 500 an unprecedented seven times and setting a new record by winning an unprecedented 27 races in a single season (1967).

On July 18, 1958, just 16 days after he turned 21, he made his debut in the NASCAR racing series.
