Sara Cox Bio, Life and Career:

Sara Joanne Cyzer is a British broadcaster. She was born Sara Joanne Cox on the 13th of December 1974. She was the presenter of Radio 1 Breakfast on BBC Radio 1 from April 3, 2000, until December 19, 2003. Since January 2019, she has been the host of the drivetime programme on BBC Radio 2, which airs Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm (formerly 5 pm–7 pm).In addition, she has been the host of many television series for the BBC, such as “The Great Pottery Throw Down” (2015–2017), “Too Much TV” (2016), and “Back in Time for…” (2018–2020).

Cox was born Sarah Joanne Cox on 13 December 1974, but she later dropped the use of the letter ‘h’ from her first name. Her parents lived in the village of Little Lever near Bolton, Greater Manchester, where she grew up on her father’s farm.  She was the youngest of five children. (2018–2020). Cox is currently serving as the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Little Lever in the United Kingdom. After her parents divorced when she was six or seven years old, she moved to a new home in the same village with her mother and a sister.

She attended Smithills High School up until the age of 16 and then left Canon Slade School after completing her A-levels in order to pursue a career in modelling. Cox is currently based in London. She was featured in a controversial promotional poster for the computer game Wipeout, which was released in 1995, as well as in the music video for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s 1993 track “Everyday”.Cox gained her first television show position in 1996 when she presented the early “Girl Power” show The Girlie Show on Channel 4.

In 1997, Cox hosted the late-night music programme MTV Hot on the UK feed of MTV, which was broadcast in the United Kingdom. Cox became a presenter on The Big Breakfast in September 1998, following in the footsteps of her good friend Zoe Ball, who had previously held the position. Cox loved to do interviews in the caravan that belonged to her father, which was located in the backyard of The Big Breakfast. Cox made the transition to radio on September 19, 1999, when she began working for BBC Radio 1. She was the brains behind the very successful medical comedy The Surgery with Mark Hamilton, in which Cox starred as “Nurse Coxy.” In addition to that, she and Emma B presented the Saturday lunchtime programme from 13:00 to 15:00 every week. It was reported in December 1999 that Cox will once again take over for Zoe Ball as the host of Radio 1 Breakfast. The first day that Cox appeared on the morning programme was April 3, 2000.

Her first listening ratings were quite impressive, going from 6.9 million to 7.8 million listeners during her first fifteen months in the position, giving Radio 1 its greatest morning audience ever. This audience was larger than that of her predecessor, the former BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Evans. But, by August of that year, the number had fallen below 7 million once again. During a live broadcast in August of 2000, Cox stated that the Queen Mother “smelled of wee.”

In January 2003, Cox denied rumours that she was preparing to leave the BBC for a rival show and signed a three-year contract with the public service broadcaster, tying her to the breakfast show and with the BBC for two years after that. In August of 2000, Cox made the comment that the Queen Mother “smelled of wee.” In August of 2003, the BBC once again refuted rumours that she had been given ten weeks to boost ratings or face the possibility of replacement.

These rumours were published in the Daily Mail. Nevertheless, only two months later, the BBC made the announcement that Cox will be replaced by Chris Moyles in January 2004. At the time of the announcement, Cox’s listening ratings had dropped to 6.6 million. On December 19, 2003, Cox presented the last edition of her morning programme.

After that, Cox took up the “drivetime” position in the afternoon, therefore essentially trading places with Chris Moyles. Throughout the course of six months, she was the presenter of the Drivetime programme, which included segments such as “For Your Ears Only,” “Me, Myself and I,” and “Chap’s Eye Pub Quiz” (referring to her former sidekick Mark Chapman). Cox started her maternity leave in June of 2004 when she became pregnant with a daughter whom they named Lola Anne. When she went back to work at Radio 1 in early 2005, the drivetime position that she had previously vacated for Scott Mills, the presenter who had filled in for her while she was on maternity leave, was made permanent.

Beginning in February 2005, Cox was in charge of the afternoon show that aired on Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 13:00 and 16:00. In July 2007, Cox hosted London Live on Channel 4, and she made an appearance as a guest star on the show Angela and Friends on Sky1 in November 2009 and as a guest presenter on the show in January 2010. Also in 2010, she made an appearance as a team captain on What Do Kids Know? on the Watch channel, with Rufus Hound and Joe Swash. Cox was succeeded as a commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals on BBC Three by Ana Matronic beginning with the 2013 competition. Cox had previously co-commented for those semi-finals with fellow BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills in 2011 and 2012, and again in 2021 as a late stand-in for Rylan Clark. Cox was a guest presenter for the episode of The Great British Sewing Bee that was dedicated to Children in Need and aired on October 21, 2014. It was announced in April 2015 that Cox will be the host of The Great Pottery Throw Down on BBC Two. Both of these series had their starts in November 2015 and February 2017, respectively. Too Much TV is a daily magazine programme that airs on BBC Two and was co-presented by Cox in 2016. Cox made an appearance on Dara O’Briain’s Go 8 Bit in 2017, and he was a member of Steve’s squad throughout the competition. In terms of points, she came out on the losing end of the programme.

On June 4, 2017, Cox and Ore Oduba co-presented the charity concert special and television special for One Love Manchester on British television. Cox has been a co-presenter of the show Back in Time for… since 2018. In this show, a family living in the present day eats meals that were eaten by families living in the past. She took over for Giles Coren.  Beginning in May 2018, she hosts Love in the Countryside on BBC Two. Cox wed the DJ Jon Carter in October 2001.  Their daughter was born on June 13, 2004.
