Simon Baker Bio, Life, and Career:
Simon Lucas Baker is an Australian filmmaker and actor who has worked in film and television. He was born in Australia on July 30, 1969. In addition to starring in a number of films from Hollywood, he is most known for his key roles as Patrick Jane and Nicholas Fallin in the television shows The Mentalist and The Guardian, both shown on CBS. Baker was born in the Tasmanian city of Launceston.
His father, Larry, worked as a mechanic at the school where his son attended, while his mother, Liz, taught English to high school students. He also has two half-brothers and a half-sister in addition to his older sister. When Baker was just nine months old, his family uprooted and relocated to New Guinea. His parents divorced when he was two years old, and his father did not contact him again until he was an adult.
Baker’s mother remarried shortly after Baker became 18. Baker’s relationship with his stepfather, Tom Denny, a butcher, was strained due to the fact that his mother later remarried. After some time, his mother and stepfather ended up getting a divorce.
Baker’s formative years were spent in large part in the suburban areas of Sydney. However, most of his childhood was spent in Lennox Head, a town located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. During his senior year of high school, he split his time between Trinity Catholic College and Ballina High School.
Baker has been a dedicated surfer ever since he was a little boy, and he places a high value on both the sport and the relationships he has developed with his fellow surfers throughout his life. Baker’s acting debut came in the form of an advertisement. While he was waiting for a buddy to audition for the role, he was approached by the casting director and asked to try out for it himself.
Before beginning his career in Hollywood, he appeared in a number of television dramas in Australia, including E Street (playing the role of Sam Farrel from 1992 to 1993), Home and Away (playing the role of James Hudson from 1993 to 1994), and Heartbreak High (playing the role of Tom Summers in 1996). Baker was honored with the Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in the year 1993.
In February 2013, Baker was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during a ceremony honoring the occasion. In the middle of the 1990s, Baker uprooted his life and moved to the United States. Baker made his debut in the role of Matt Reynolds in the 1997 film L.A. Confidential.
In the television series The Mentalist, he played the role of Patrick Jane, and in the movie The Guardian, he played the role of Nick Fallin.
In 2010, he was paid $355,000 for each episode of The Mentalist he appeared in. Soon after that, he signed a deal that gave him a sum of thirty million dollars in United States dollars for his role as Patrick Jane.
It was his roles as Max Rourke in the remake of the Japanese horror film The Ring Two, Riley Denbo in Land of the Dead, and Christian Thompson in the cinematic adaption of The Devil Wears Prada that brought him to prominence in the film industry.
Baker made his debut as a filmmaker with the film Breath in 2017, which was also the first film in which he appeared, co-wrote, and co-produced. The novel by Tim Winton with the same name served as the inspiration for the film. The invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was extended to Baker in June of 2012, along with invitations to 175 other individuals.
Baker was recognized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 14, 2013, and received a star in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the entertainment business. The location of Baker’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is 6352 Hollywood Boulevard. After living together for five years prior to their wedding, Baker and Australian actress Rebecca Rigg tied the knot on October 2, 1998.
In an interview with The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Baker revealed that one of the couple’s two marriages took place on the sands of Carmel Beach. They have three children: Stella, who was born in 1993; Claude, who was born in 1998; and Harry, who was born in 2001. In April 2020, Baker and Rigg ended their relationship.
Baker revealed to PopMatters in July 2009 that he had a Catholic upbringing but that he did not practice the religion anymore.
