Veronica Belmont Bio, Life, and Career:
Veronica Ann Belmont is a well-known figure in the world of American online media. She was born on July 21, 1982. She previously worked alongside Patrick Norton as a co-host on the show Tekzilla, which was broadcast on Revision3. Alongside Brian Brushwood, Belmont was a former host of the monthly PlayStation 3-based video-on-demand program known as Qore. Prior to that, Belmont was a co-host of the gaming show Game On! that aired on TWiT.tv. In addition to that, she was the host of the Mahalo Daily podcast, in addition to being a producer and associate editor for CNET Networks, Inc., where she produced, engineered, and co-hosted the podcast Buzz Out Loud. The vice president of Coleco was Belmont’s mother when he was growing up.
Before attending Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where he majored in audio production and new media studies, Belmont completed his secondary education at Conard High School, which is located in West Hartford, Connecticut. Following her graduation in 2004, she found a job in Boston for a short while and then went on to earn an internship at CNET. She makes her home in San Francisco, California, with her husband, Ryan Block, who once worked as an editor at Engadget. The Internet was how Belmont discovered she has Jewish ancestry; she said, “Quite literally, like I found out that I was… I had no idea that any of my ancestors were Jewish until recently. And all of it was made possible thanks to, well, thanks to technology.” Beginning his career at CNET Networks as an intern producing audio material, Belmont eventually became an employee there.
Six months later, she was offered a full-time position to produce their First Look from the Labs series, and she also started producing Buzz Out Loud at that time. Her role on the podcast started out as that of the show’s sound engineer and producer; however, it has significantly expanded since it began. She started adding her own commentary and in August of 2006, she was officially recognized as a co-host for the show. She was also the producer and co-host of two additional CNET podcasts called MP3 Insider and CRAVE Gadget Blog, which was both co-hosted by James Kim. Both of these podcasts were distributed by CNET.
On April 6, 2006, as part of an episode of Insider Secrets titled “Give your PC a Mac-over,” Belmont made her first appearance in a video broadcast on CNET. Since that time, she has hosted videos from South by Southwest, CES, and Maker Faire. In addition to that, she was the host of the series Prizefight. Her last appearance on CNET TV was on July 25, 2007, when she competed in an episode of Prizefight pitting the iPhone against the Nokia N95. In July of 2007, Belmont made the decision to join Mahalo and departed CNET. She was the host and producer of her own podcast called Mahalo Daily, which she named after the show and which covered topics of her choosing.
Her first video was an interview with Leeroy Jenkins, which was filmed at the BlizzCon in 2007. On April 2, 2008, Belmont made the announcement that she will be quitting her position at Mahalo Daily in around two weeks’ time. On April 3, 2008, this information was reported by TV Week. It was announced on April 9, 2008, by Revision3 that Belmont will be joining the Revision3 staff as a co-host of the show Tekzilla. She began her role as host of Tekzilla Daily Tip in May of 2008. In October 2012, Belmont became the host of the short-form show Fact or Fictional, which is shown on Revision3’s new channel on YouTube, tech feed.
In November 2013, Belmont parted ways with Revision 3. Sony Computer Entertainment made the announcement in June 2008 that a new “monthly lifestyle gaming program” dubbed Qore will be hosted by Belmont and would be available as a paid subscription service. She made the announcement on her blog on October 19, 2011, that she would be resigning from her position as host. On October 16, 2007, Belmont began co-hosting a podcast with Tom Merritt, who was famous at the time for his work on CNET and TWIT’s Tech News Today. It is limited to works of science fiction and fantasy, as the name suggests, and William Gibson’s Neuromancer served as the book that launched the series.
Before the podcast was created, it was a forum-based book club in that people could participate. This format was utilized until the completion of the first three books, which were The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, and American Gods by Neil Gaiman. After that, the podcast was developed to replace this format. On the 30th of October, 2011, Leo Laporte made the announcement on This Week in Tech that Belmont would be cohosting the next gaming show for TWiT called Game On! along with Brian Brushwood. On January 15, 2012, at 6:00 pm Pacific time, the TWiT network hosted a live webcast of the show’s first official episode, which aired at the same time. On April 9, 2012, the most recent episode of the show was made available online.
